Censorship

Most recently, meaning within the last six months or so, I began seriously questioning the conservative side of politics, most especially what the Republican party stands for and claims to value. Because of my questioning and what I’ve been discovering, I voted for Barack Obama this most recent election; nevertheless, there are still some areas where I am firmly conservative in my thinking, as opposed to what I would call “hard-left leaning” or “liberal.”

I was reading an article about a teacher being investigated for discussing what the bible says about gay relationships. Apparently, some gay students felt persecuted and reported the discussion of the bible to parents, and “Freedom From Religion Foundation” (a Wisconsin-based atheist organization) complained and became involved.

While I don’t believe that Jesus Christ would have ever persecuted anyone for their sin, short of teaching them about the harm of it through a parable, perhaps, I also know that He didn’t censor His words for fear of hurting someone’s feelings. He didn’t particularly worry about being offensive. He told the truth even when it might offend.

I will never agree that this nation, America, should ever become so politically correct as to make it illegal to quote the bible, or share writings from any book or point of view in schools, public or private, or anywhere.

I’m very strongly against censorship. If someone’s mental health is based upon sheltering them from every offensive idea or expression of the same, than they have extremely fragile mental health and this is pathetic that they are so protected as to be insulated in a vacuüm. The lives of everyone cannot be held hostage just because someone might take offense and get their little feelers hurt; that’s just complete insanity.

We have to learn to live in this world with dissenting opinion, ideas, and the free expression of these. The day that someone dictates what we can and cannot say, think, write, draw, paint, create or express, is the day that we are slaves to a society gone out of control in its “well-meaning” intent.  I can never defend censorship of any kind.

There is also a very clear difference between censorship and prevention of bullying. Sharing what the bible says is not bullying, nor should there be a problem sharing what any religion says about anything. Those who want to make this kind of speech illegal are attempting to infringe upon our freedom of speech and we cannot allow it.  (Source)

Interview Drama

English: Fortified manor house. Rural paranoia...

I’ve been looking for work in order to supplement my business income because I have a lot of over-budget repairs to do here on my property; I’ve got to do a lot of upkeep and save for retirement, along with my daughter’s braces, etc.

Anyway, I went and interviewed for a job yesterday. Everything went very well with the interview — I believed I had the job because I was given the gate code and told that I would be called with the time to arrive. I happily drove away, slowly backing out toward the already-opening electric gate. Suddenly, I slammed into a sort of pole thing. I guess it was a pole that stops the gate; I’m not sure what you call it. It demolished my bumper, but I don’t know if it damaged the pole or not because the gate was closing and I just continued backing out and went home.

When I got home, I called my prospective future boss and owned up to backing into the pole, speaking with his wife because he wasn’t home. I apologized to his wife, leaving a message that I hoped there was no damage done to his pole. Now, I’m just waiting to see if he calls to let me know what time to come over to start work. So far, no call. Perhaps backing into the pole-thing destroyed my opportunity.

I was nervous! And we’ve all heard the stories about women drivers, right? (chuckle — they’re true, actually). But sincerely, I do hope I didn’t blow that job by hitting that pole. It’s driving me crazy.. I’ll be so humiliated if I don’t get this job. I’ve prayed about it, and I accept whatever happens as God‘s will,  but I’ll be so very disappointed. I just can’t believe I did that!

Ron is a wonderful blogger who cares very much about bullied children, who regularly writes about their plight. Please join him in fighting these kinds of atrocities by writing and speaking to our public officials who can change the laws we currently have about bullying.

Tuesday, November 27th, I received this from the creator of Wipe Out Homophobia.  It was sent to him from one of his members:

Today my friend’s good friend, a seventeen year old boy by the name of Josh, killed himself after being continuously bullied for being gay. Josh had his whole life ahead of him, but the ignorant and hateful words of others caused that to be taken away from him. How many people need to die before this world realizes that something is wrong with the way we are treating people?! The constitution states that every human being has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Josh was as human as any of the rest of us, yet he was stripped of all of those rights. This needs to change. No matter gay, straight, or anything else, we all are human, and therefore must all…

Christisanity has the capability of putting things succinctly and firmly, while still being loving. Hard-hitting truth that can sting, but is sorely needed in our current world. This is a great post!

Bullying Susan Rice

This is a rant, but I will attempt to rant elegantly, in lady-like fashion, so as not to become a shrew.

Once again, I see that our future Democratic Secretary of State-to-be, Susan Rice, is making headlines due to a few grumpy, hyper-vigilant Republican senators who shall remain nameless because they don’t deserve the attention that continues to enable their tantrums.

When will the right get over losing the election? Are they going to sulk, scream, and bitch indefinitely over a loss that they’ve brought onto themselves? This isn’t about Benghazi! This is a political whine-fest designed to raise holy hell because President Obama was re-elected and the right was sent the clear message to back off and get back to work under President Obama. So why aren’t senate Republicans paying attention?

Do they really want to lose another election the next time around? Voters aren’t going to forget this nonsense, and I’m getting a little irritated with the antics of men who act like children instead of elected officials with a job to do.

Picking on the pretty little African-American gal on the political playground because you didn’t get your way is beginning to anger the American people, in my opinion. Grow up! Move forward. Wipe your noses and quit pulling Susan Rice’s pigtails. You are actually liable to get a permanent time out, if this keeps up, gentlemen.

Susan Rice isn’t your whipping boy because you failed to take the President down. Perhaps remake your failed party and upgrade it already. Begin by looking at the mistakes you’ve made again and again because you don’t care about the average American and we know it! Grow even a sliver of a compassionate bone in your political bodies and start walking the Christian, moral-majority talk you claim, instead of acting the complete opposite. You are all lousy examples of  Christianity, again, in my opinion.

Susan Rice told the truth and if you want to continue to harass someone, go to the source — the intelligence agency you have a bone to pick with, (apparently), or just get busy compromising on the fiscal cliff before Democrats drive right off of it. (They really should!) We’re fed up with your fits and starts, and frankly, you all need your bottoms paddled.

Susan Rice, welcome to the Secretary of State position, and long may you reign. Ignore the fools that keep grasping at straws in their obsessive ignorance, because no one’s fooling us. Sour grapes spoil the buffet, but we know which side that rotten fruit smell is coming from…

Subjective Interpretation of Biblical Truth

King James Bible

“A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.” —Ecclesiastes 10:2 King James Version (KJV)

“Every way of man is right in his own eyes but the Lord pondereth the hearts” —Proverbs 21:2 (KJV)

During this last election cycle, I observed a few blog posters claiming they were correct in their choice of political party because of what the bible says.  They based this accuracy on their subjective, personal interpretation of bible scripture and even interpreted particular scripture that proved without error how Christians are to stand on a particular issue or even political party.  I paid attention because I was a little amazed at this interesting “tactic.”

Certainly I’m not surprised to discover any Christian believing he has the correct bible interpretation of what scripture attempts to tells us. What I’m unaccustomed to, however, is someone’s certainty that they know accuracy of scripture that is absolutely murky, a little puzzling, and has been interpreted numerous different ways by even renowned bible scholars and theologians.

None of us can say without question that we have the perfect and only correct interpretation of what a bible scripture says.  We can only agree with those who have come before us, or offer our opinion based upon the Holy Spirit‘s guidance, or even our minister’s; still this is essentially manipulating the bible so that we can further our own agenda forward  — political or otherwise.  Only the truly objective can be trusted to assess the unvarnished truth.

For those who interpret as they will, based upon their own agenda, I have to wonder if this is akin to adding something to scripture or taking something away; we all remember what God warned about that, I hope….

“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” — Revelation 22:19

So…are we then to vote Republican or become Conservative in our thinking because of this scripture, for example? “A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.” —Ecclesiastes 10:2 King James Version (KJV)   No, I think not.  This scripture is absolutely not telling us that we should vote conservatively or veer to the right, (ie: Republican), when we vote, though I see how many Right-Wing Christians might choose to view scripture in this manner; it’s not the case though, no matter how much they want it to be so.

I also have to wonder how many bible passages are being mis-read and misinterpreted in an attempt to see and believe what one wants, or prefers. It’s always easiest to digest something that may better fit with our own particular way of seeing the world, than to try and swallow down someone else’s.

This is kind of scary stuff though, or it could be, depending upon how one perceives what the bible is saying about how we should act, think, and behave. Any of us could be seriously off the beaten path and think we’re completely in the right! I believe it is probably safest to go with the bible interpretation that the majority of bible scholars and theologians agree with. These people are usually more studied than the average lay person is;  nevertheless, allowing anyone to twist scripture to their own biased devices and interpretation is a dangerous course that begs for erroneous bumbling.

Allowing one wing of a political party to have the only truth, (alleged gospel), on accurate interpretation of the bible also begs for some serious error. There is just way too much bias; thus we should strive to find a reliable, objective interpretation that is not biased toward the extreme religious right or the left and strive for something that willingly looks at all sides.

Perhaps we might ponder on this scripture too, which doesn’t seem too difficult to interpret.  I think this is something we can all trust in and it seems pretty accurate to me.  Even personal bias cannot misinterpret this:

Every way of man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord pondereth the hearts. —Proverbs 21:2 (KJV)

Rumors About Obamacare Microchip

Obamacare countdown

There is a nasty little rumor circulating that within the Affordable Health Care Act/aka Obamacare, there is a premise that is now law that everyone will be forced to have a microchip implant–beginning on March 23, 2013. This is a FALSE RUMOR. It’s not truth. Please review the information below and see for yourself.

Just after the operation to insert the RFID ta...

Christians are being upset and scared by this rumor so I wanted to help share the truth via a posting, so that we can put this rumor to rest. When the time comes that the Mark of the Beast is actually implemented, we all want to be absolutely certain of what we’re getting into. We’ll each have a choice to make. We will not be tricked into taking the mark of the beast; we will choose of our free will.

For now, though, this isn’t the truth; it’s mistaken, erroneous information and rumor.

Debunked: Obamacare RFID Chip Implant Law Hoax
There’s a hoax going around that the health care reform act HR3200 (The Affordable Care Act, aka “Obamacare”) requires everyone to get a chip implanted in their body.

This has already been quite well debunked over on Snopes:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/microchip.asp

The bottom line is:
The proposed law did not require anyone to get anything implanted. It just created a national registry of a huge of range of medical devices from pacemakers to dental implants. The intent of the registry was to collect statistics on how safe and effective the devices are. HR3200 is not the bill that passed. That’s HR 3590, which does not have the registry.

An implantable RFID chip is just one example of a class II implantable medical device. Others include:
http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/1681045-overview

percutaneous catheters
vascular graft prostheses
bone-conduction hearing aids
tympanostomy tubes
gastrointestinal tubes
implantable staples
long-term intravascular catheters
intracranial pressure monitor devices
peripheral nerve stimulators for pain relief
eye sphere implants
intramedullary fixation rods
joint prostheses

Here’s the original bill (which did not ever become law):

http://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/BILLS-1…11hr3200ih.pdf

And here’s what it says:

SEC. 2521. NATIONAL MEDICAL DEVICE REGISTRY.
[…]
‘‘(g)(1) The Secretary shall establish a national medical device registry (in this subsection referred to as the ‘registry’) to facilitate analysis of postmarket safety and outcomes data on each device that—
‘‘(A) is or has been used in or on a patient; and
‘‘(B) is—
‘‘(i) a class III device; or
‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable, life-supporting, or life-sustaining
There’s a little more about administrative things, but the above is the entirety of what the conspiracy promoters base their theory on. They get away with it in part because the language of the bill is rather complex and difficult to read, so they can basically make up whatever interpretation they like, and many of their readers will be fooled.

They then build upon this by claiming that a Class II device is a
“implantable radiofrequency transponder system for patient identification and health information.”
When actually the three classes of medical devices have nothing to do with what the devices are, but are to do with how much they are regulated to ensure safety. For example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical…#United_States
Examples of Class III devices include implantable pacemaker, pulse generators, HIV diagnostic tests, automated external defibrillators, and endosseous implants.

Examples of Class II devices include powered wheelchairs, infusion pumps, and surgical drapes.

Examples of Class I devices include elastic bandages, examination gloves, and hand-held surgical instruments.
So the law simply creates a registry for this HUGE range of different medical devices.

Implantable RFID chips would be covered under the law, but that’s simply because they are one of thousands of devices that are classified as Type III or Type II implantable.

It’s not a law, and even if it was, it no more mandates you get a chip implanted than it mandates you get a hip replacement.

Giving Thanks

It’s another Thanksgiving Eve, and I had dinner out this evening with my little girl. It was a quiet, peaceful, laid back dinner. We had Mexican food, splitting the Special Dinner, with corn tortillas. She loves Mexican food. Now we’re back home. The kiddo is watching a fave program on TV, then we’re about to start making snap green beans with bacon and are boiling potatoes for potato salad for tomorrow. We’re going to make the stuffing tonight too so that we’re ready to stuff the turkey for in the morning. We were invited to various friend’s homes, but we decided on a little meal at our place in case any of our tenants stop by and want a plate. Some may wind up staying home without family so we don’t want them to miss turkey dinner.

A roast turkey prepared for a traditional U.S....

We’ve got all kinds of goodies for munching and we’ve stacked up some awesome movies on the DVR. I’ve got a few Christian movies that we haven’t seen before, but don’t know if we’ll wind up watching them or save them for Christmas. My little one has been off from school for Thanksgiving Holidays so it’s been pretty mellow of late and that’s always nice!

Our animals are all doing great and they’ll get some treats so that they can be thankful tooMay God help me!. For those of you who remember, Vickie (our newest arrival),  has been with us approximately a year now and she’s been something else. What a little pistol that fur-kid is. I’m thankful this year for so many things.

  1. I’m thankful for my relationship with God & Jesus Christ.
  2. I’m blessed and grateful for my beautiful thirteen year old daughter.
  3. I’m thankful for two of the best friends anyone could ever have.
  4. I’m so thankful for our beautiful dogs and cats & our two turtles.
  5. I’m grateful for being able to manage financially despite tough times.
  6. I’m very grateful for my home and little property, and my business.
  7. I am very thankful I paid off the truck awhile back, so no car payments!
  8. I’m so blessed and thankful for what God is continually doing in my life.
  9. I’m thankful that there is a cease fire between Israel and Gaza and I hope it endures.
  10. I’m so grateful that President Obama has been re-elected because I feel that the country will be in good hands with him at the helm.
  11. I’m blessed at the absolute adventure my life seems to be; I’m never bored.
  12. I’m thankful that God is going to bring me the perfect job to supplement my business income, and I’m excited to find out what that’s going to be.
  13. I’m so grateful for those of you who read my blog faithfully, for the friends I’ve made along the way, and for those I have yet to meet. May God bless and keep all of you this Thanksgiving Holiday.
  14. I’m thankful that my child and I have enough of everything and that we’re happy!
