Subjective Interpretation of Biblical Truth

“Every way of man is right in his own eyes but the Lord pondereth the hearts” —Proverbs 21:2 (KJV)

During this last election cycle, I observed a few blog posters claiming they were correct in their choice of political party because of what the bible says.  They based this accuracy on their subjective, personal interpretation of bible scripture and even interpreted particular scripture that proved without error how Christians are to stand on a particular issue or even political party.  I paid attention because I was a little amazed at this interesting “tactic.”

Certainly I’m not surprised to discover any Christian believing he has the correct bible interpretation of what scripture attempts to tells us. What I’m unaccustomed to, however, is someone’s certainty that they know accuracy of scripture that is absolutely murky, a little puzzling, and has been interpreted numerous different ways by even renowned bible scholars and theologians.

None of us can say without question that we have the perfect and only correct interpretation of what a bible scripture says.  We can only agree with those who have come before us, or offer our opinion based upon the Holy Spirit‘s guidance, or even our minister’s; still this is essentially manipulating the bible so that we can further our own agenda forward  — political or otherwise.  Only the truly objective can be trusted to assess the unvarnished truth.

For those who interpret as they will, based upon their own agenda, I have to wonder if this is akin to adding something to scripture or taking something away; we all remember what God warned about that, I hope….

“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” — Revelation 22:19

So…are we then to vote Republican or become Conservative in our thinking because of this scripture, for example? “A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.” —Ecclesiastes 10:2 King James Version (KJV)   No, I think not.  This scripture is absolutely not telling us that we should vote conservatively or veer to the right, (ie: Republican), when we vote, though I see how many Right-Wing Christians might choose to view scripture in this manner; it’s not the case though, no matter how much they want it to be so.

I also have to wonder how many bible passages are being mis-read and misinterpreted in an attempt to see and believe what one wants, or prefers. It’s always easiest to digest something that may better fit with our own particular way of seeing the world, than to try and swallow down someone else’s.

This is kind of scary stuff though, or it could be, depending upon how one perceives what the bible is saying about how we should act, think, and behave. Any of us could be seriously off the beaten path and think we’re completely in the right! I believe it is probably safest to go with the bible interpretation that the majority of bible scholars and theologians agree with. These people are usually more studied than the average lay person is;  nevertheless, allowing anyone to twist scripture to their own biased devices and interpretation is a dangerous course that begs for erroneous bumbling.

Allowing one wing of a political party to have the only truth, (alleged gospel), on accurate interpretation of the bible also begs for some serious error. There is just way too much bias; thus we should strive to find a reliable, objective interpretation that is not biased toward the extreme religious right or the left and strive for something that willingly looks at all sides.

Perhaps we might ponder on this scripture too, which doesn’t seem too difficult to interpret.  I think this is something we can all trust in and it seems pretty accurate to me.  Even personal bias cannot misinterpret this:

Rumors About Obamacare Microchip

Christians are being upset and scared by this rumor so I wanted to help share the truth via a posting, so that we can put this rumor to rest. When the time comes that the Mark of the Beast is actually implemented, we all want to be absolutely certain of what we’re getting into. We’ll each have a choice to make. We will not be tricked into taking the mark of the beast; we will choose of our free will.

For now, though, this isn’t the truth; it’s mistaken, erroneous information and rumor.

Debunked: Obamacare RFID Chip Implant Law Hoax
There’s a hoax going around that the health care reform act HR3200 (The Affordable Care Act, aka “Obamacare”) requires everyone to get a chip implanted in their body.

This has already been quite well debunked over on Snopes:

The bottom line is:
The proposed law did not require anyone to get anything implanted. It just created a national registry of a huge of range of medical devices from pacemakers to dental implants. The intent of the registry was to collect statistics on how safe and effective the devices are. HR3200 is not the bill that passed. That’s HR 3590, which does not have the registry.

An implantable RFID chip is just one example of a class II implantable medical device. Others include:

‘‘(g)(1) The Secretary shall establish a national medical device registry (in this subsection referred to as the ‘registry’) to facilitate analysis of postmarket safety and outcomes data on each device that—
‘‘(A) is or has been used in or on a patient; and
‘‘(B) is—
‘‘(i) a class III device; or
‘‘(ii) a class II device that is implantable, life-supporting, or life-sustaining
There’s a little more about administrative things, but the above is the entirety of what the conspiracy promoters base their theory on. They get away with it in part because the language of the bill is rather complex and difficult to read, so they can basically make up whatever interpretation they like, and many of their readers will be fooled.

They then build upon this by claiming that a Class II device is a
“implantable radiofrequency transponder system for patient identification and health information.”
When actually the three classes of medical devices have nothing to do with what the devices are, but are to do with how much they are regulated to ensure safety. For example:

Examples of Class III devices include implantable pacemaker, pulse generators, HIV diagnostic tests, automated external defibrillators, and endosseous implants.

Examples of Class II devices include powered wheelchairs, infusion pumps, and surgical drapes.

Examples of Class I devices include elastic bandages, examination gloves, and hand-held surgical instruments.
So the law simply creates a registry for this HUGE range of different medical devices.

Implantable RFID chips would be covered under the law, but that’s simply because they are one of thousands of devices that are classified as Type III or Type II implantable.

It’s not a law, and even if it was, it no more mandates you get a chip implanted than it mandates you get a hip replacement.

Giving Thanks

It’s another Thanksgiving Eve, and I had dinner out this evening with my little girl. It was a quiet, peaceful, laid back dinner. We had Mexican food, splitting the Special Dinner, with corn tortillas. She loves Mexican food. Now we’re back home. The kiddo is watching a fave program on TV, then we’re about to start making snap green beans with bacon and are boiling potatoes for potato salad for tomorrow. We’re going to make the stuffing tonight too so that we’re ready to stuff the turkey for in the morning. We were invited to various friend’s homes, but we decided on a little meal at our place in case any of our tenants stop by and want a plate. Some may wind up staying home without family so we don’t want them to miss turkey dinner.

We’ve got all kinds of goodies for munching and we’ve stacked up some awesome movies on the DVR. I’ve got a few Christian movies that we haven’t seen before, but don’t know if we’ll wind up watching them or save them for Christmas. My little one has been off from school for Thanksgiving Holidays so it’s been pretty mellow of late and that’s always nice!

Our animals are all doing great and they’ll get some treats so that they can be thankful tooMay God help me!. For those of you who remember, Vickie (our newest arrival),  has been with us approximately a year now and she’s been something else. What a little pistol that fur-kid is. I’m thankful this year for so many things.

  1. I’m thankful for my relationship with God & Jesus Christ.
  2. I’m blessed and grateful for my beautiful thirteen year old daughter.
  3. I’m thankful for two of the best friends anyone could ever have.
  4. I’m so thankful for our beautiful dogs and cats & our two turtles.
  5. I’m grateful for being able to manage financially despite tough times.
  6. I’m very grateful for my home and little property, and my business.
  7. I am very thankful I paid off the truck awhile back, so no car payments!
  8. I’m so blessed and thankful for what God is continually doing in my life.
  9. I’m thankful that there is a cease fire between Israel and Gaza and I hope it endures.
  10. I’m so grateful that President Obama has been re-elected because I feel that the country will be in good hands with him at the helm.
  11. I’m blessed at the absolute adventure my life seems to be; I’m never bored.
  12. I’m thankful that God is going to bring me the perfect job to supplement my business income, and I’m excited to find out what that’s going to be.
  13. I’m so grateful for those of you who read my blog faithfully, for the friends I’ve made along the way, and for those I have yet to meet. May God bless and keep all of you this Thanksgiving Holiday.

Israel & Gaza

“From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.” –James 4:1-2

I’m very disturbed and distressed about the Israel/Gaza conflict that is occurring. Watching the rockets and air strikes and seeing the wounded and the bleeding, I can only feel a deep sense of sadness, horror, and almost depression.

This killing isn’t the will of God. The murder of others isn’t acceptable under the new covenant we have through Jesus Christ our Lord. There are other ways of dealing with men and women. Murdering one another isn’t the appropriate way of handling disagreement and misunderstanding. The sinful nature of man is destroying him; his greed for land, oil, and lust for power may never allow war to cease on this planet, until Jesus Christ returns for His church.

I understand the need for violence in order to defend one’s self and one’s allies when they are in the right, but I see little reason for it, short of that. When there is senseless, pointless violence that serves no one and harms many, it sickens me; that is what I see happening between Israel and Gaza and I hate it.

I’ve read the bible numerous times, and I accept God’s actions in the Old Testament, despite not completely understanding or even approving of them. I know how God behaved in those Old Testament times and why He demanded various action that is difficult to wrap one’s mind around. God wants everyone to turn to Him now though, and to the path He created through Jesus Christ to unite us to God in a sin-free mind, body, and spirit; I don’t believe God wants to see man killing each other if there is any possible way for him to avoid it.

There are so many whose feet are quick to rush to battle, to kill and destroy their enemy, when diplomacy could potentially resolve things peacefully. I am on the side of those who want to resolve disagreement through peaceful means — until there is absolutely no longer any other alternative left but to defend one’s self.

I mourn what is occurring between the Israelites and the Palestinians. It is horrific and something to shed tears over and I do pray every day that God will stop this brutality and the bloodshed, if it be His will.

Today, I was privileged to be on the National Pastors Call with President Obama.  The President spoke to Pastors and Faith leaders from various beliefs.

Just a few days ago, Christian leaders were clearly divided on where or not it was “Christian-like” to vote for President Obama.  We heard rhetoric from both sides of the Christian aisle.  Pastor Robert Jeffress provided our Nation with an interesting, if not ominous prediction.  He said, “The course he (President Obama) is choosing to lead our nation is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist.”  Yet other pastors stood behind the president and stated he must be re-elected in order for our Nation to be unified and for us to get through the problems we’re facing.

Seceding Christendom Mad At Obama ll

It appears that a new petition has been filed to strip the citizenship from and deport the seceding right wingers, exiling them.  One blogger, in particular, calls this a “liberal attack.”  Of course, to be fair, pretty much everything on that blog is perceived to be a liberal attack. It’s blatantly obvious that the poster is biased to the far right, but my point is that it would appear that those who desire to secede from the Union are selfishly attempting to further divide our already divided country. They have made an attempt that they haven’t even begun to think through the consequences of.

One of our well known Word Press bloggers, Short Little Rebel, offers some valid sanity and reason to those overwhelmed with the emotional fall out from the loss of their candidate, Mitt Romney.  She claims that it might be wise to stop and consider what becoming one’s own country will mean;  I agree with her, as I don’t think that those who are reacting out of angst, sour grapes, and sore losses have a clue what they will be in for if they are actually successful in getting what they think they want.

All I can personally hope, is that the insanity stops soon, and that those who are actually serious will be helped to secede all on their own without bothering the rest of us.

By now we’ve all heard of the petitions filed with the White House asking to “peacefully” secede certain states from the Union.

Sore losers? Or have they not studied American History? (Does the “Civil War” ring a bell? Bueller? Bueller?)

Forty ominously solemn petitions, primarily from Red States, have sprouted up on https://petitions.whitehouse.gov.

So it was only a matter of time before the pranksters weighed in.

At least we think they’re pranksters.

“Deport Everyone That Signed A Petition To Withdraw Their State From The United States of America” popped up on the White House website late Monday. The No. 1 signer, and apparent creator, is one Joshua L from Birmingham, Ala.

With 7,986 signatories already, the appeal is only 17,014 John Hancocks (or John Hs) short of having it carefully considered by the Obama administration.  Source    (Phily.com)
