The Humanity Of Jesus

In this beautiful video of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, we are brought face to face with Christ experiencing a moment of weakness or even doubt, calling out to our Father in Heaven. I love what is portrayed here by the actor, Ted Neely, who shows us Jesus in all of His awesome humanity, divine but also simply human.

Christ pleads with God, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.”

He doesn’t really expect or believe that this is going to happen. Not once is He actually denying His Father or their plan, or His divine place in the plan. Jesus shows us that while He walked this earth, He experienced what we do, and as a human acted as such in His vulnerability and questioning.

These incredible moments that Jesus expresses His humanity are some of the more endearing of Jesus’ ministry, showing us that He identified with our earthly suffering so that we know we can overcome in our lives now, as He did then.

As you watch Ted Neely’s portrayal of Jesus, it’s almost possible to sincerely empathize with what Jesus was facing and the mixture of feelings He may have felt about what was to come. The absolute love He had for us, for God His Father, and the selflessness that He showed, is moving. Seeing Jesus as one of us in all our weaknesses, is one of the more emotional scenes I think I’ve ever witnessed and it was really beautiful on the stage as well. I thank God and the Lord Jesus Christ for His humanity, and the sacrifice He made so that we might be forgiven and wiped clean of our sins.

His Agenda – the god of this world II

For most of us as Christians, we try not to think about Satan. He is known to us as “the adversary,” “the enemy,” “the prince of the power of the air,” “lord of the flies,” “the devil,” “samael,” and many other names. We’re always aware that he exists, but it’s as if we must put him out of our minds because to think about him in depth will bring negativity and evil directly into our lives.

It’s understandable why we would prefer not to confront who this being is;  it’s wise not to underestimate him. Blinding our eyes and minds to whom and what it is that we’re battling, however, isn’t wise. Educating ourselves on what the bible tells us about Satan is the more successful course. The learned don’t often make the mistakes that the ignorant do. In this world we’re residing in, we’re instructed on how to put on the entire Armor of God so that we can stand strong and fight the enemy. This verse in and of itself tells us that there is something specific that must be undertaken in order to stand successfully against the devil.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  – Ephesians 6:11

As Christians, we are not ruled by Satan, nor are we under his control. Those who do not believe, however, are at his mercy; they are unaware of the wide array of tricks the enemy has up his sleeve in which to deceive and delude the whole of the unbelieving world.

satanic goat

Right now as you read this, Satan has managed to gain a foothold through the music of this world as I demonstrated in part one of this series on the god of this world. He is using a host of methods to get to our youth.  In part two, I am not going to belabor his obsession with bloodlust and point you in the direction of some of the extremely popular horror films, or the influx of videos & music known as “horrorcore.”  Simply trust me when I tell you that our young are being bombarded with these atrocities and many of us are unaware that this is even occurring.

There is simply so much media saturation through our technologically-savy society that we don’t have a hope of competing with what Satan is dishing out. All we can do, at this point, is educate ourselves, pray nightly for the unsaved of our world, and attempt to inform the populace about what’s going on in the way that God instructs us to do so.

Satan has an agenda; this much is clear. He only has so much time to fulfill his purpose before he is locked away where he can harm no one for a time.  His agenda is serious and he isn’t messing around. Please take the time to read the following below, which is from a wonderful site that answers most questions you may have about Christianity, the bible, and this topic as well. It’s taught me a lot and I am more informed about how serious this battle is we are engaging in. We cannot stay silent, cower, or remain uninvolved without a price being paid. God is counting on you and I to make those whom He is drawing aware of how dire things are. If we lose one young person to Satan’s wiles, that’s too many.

Question: “How is Satan god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4)?”

Answer: The phrase “god of this world” (or “god of this age” [NKJV]) indicates that Satan is the major influence on the mind-set expressed by the ideals, opinions, goals, hopes and views of the majority of people. His areas of influence also encompass the world’s philosophies, education, and commerce. The thoughts, ideas, speculations and false religions of the world are under his control and have sprung from his lies and deceptions.

Similar titles are found elsewhere in Scripture concerning Satan. Satan is called the “prince of the power of the air” in Ephesians 2:2. He is called the “ruler of this world” in John 12:31. These titles, and many more attributed to Satan throughout Scripture, signify his capabilities. To say, for example, that Satan is the “prince of the power of the air” is to signify that in some way he rules over the world and the people in it.

This is not to say that he rules the world completely; only God does this. But it does mean that God, in His infinite wisdom, has allowed Satan to operate in this world (within the boundaries God has set for him) and has allowed Satan to operate with an agenda. When the Bible says Satan has power over the world, it must be made clear that God has given him domain over unbelievers alone. Believers are no longer under the rule of Satan (Colossians 1:13). Unbelievers, on the other hand, are caught “in the snare of the devil” (2 Timothy 2:26), lie in the “power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19), and are in bondage to Satan (Ephesians 2:2).

So, when the Bible says that Satan is the “god of this world,” it is not saying that he has ultimate authority. It is conveying the idea that Satan rules over the unbelieving world in a specific way. In the case of 2 Corinthians 4:4, the unbeliever follows Satan’s agenda. According to 2 Corinthians 4:4, the “god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” Satan’s agenda includes pushing a false philosophy onto the unbelieving world—a false philosophy that blinds the unbeliever from the truth of the Gospel. Satan’s philosophies are the fortresses in which people are imprisoned, needing to be set free and brought captive to Christ in obedience to the truth.

An example of a false philosophy might be a belief that man can earn God’s favor by a certain act or acts. In fact, earning eternal life is a predominate theme around the world. Earning God’s favor by works, however, is contrary to biblical revelation. Man cannot work to earn God’s favor; eternal life is a free gift (see Ephesians 2:8-9). And that free gift is available through Jesus Christ and Him alone (John 3:1614:6). You may ask why does mankind simply not receive the free gift that enables them to truly be called children of God (John 1:12)? The answer is that Satan—the god of this world—pushes a false philosophy onto the world. Satan sets the agenda, the unbelieving world follows, and mankind continues to be deceived. It is no wonder that Scripture calls Satan a liar (John 8:44).

the god of this world – a Must Read for Christians

...Rammstein in concert...

There are a lot of Christians all over the world and in our own country, America, that don’t have a clue of exactly how evil the god of this world, Satan, really is. These Christians have no idea what we’re fighting against; they don’t know what the enemy looks like or how bad things are going to get. I honestly think if they had the slightest inkling of the truth, some couldn’t handle it.

To say that I’m afraid would be an understatement. It’s human nature to be afraid when one senses real, true evil. When one actually stumbles upon its existence and begins to note the prevalence of it everywhere we turn within this world, it takes shape and form and the threat is apparent. I’m not sure if there is the possibility of praying it away. I think, unfortunately, that it’s here to stay until this battle is over and won by Jesus Christ.

What disturbs me greatly are the many innocent young minds that are being warped and influenced by evil, reeled in by the god of this world, unaware of what is lurking behind what they are exposed to regularly. Even young people can sense evil though, if there is anything left within their minds that has not become reprobate.  When I stumble upon true evil and recognize how sick Satan can get, it’s kind of flabbergasting to me. What we are dealing with is beyond the rational. It’s over the top and raw. It’s unspeakable.

Paul landers

Christians have no idea what we’re really fighting and how far it will go to find the souls it has a taste for.

The following music videos are graphic and horrific. Do not watch them if you can’t stomach the unthinkable. I suggest them only because I want my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ to understand exactly what we are up against in this world. This IS what the bible was talking about when it said:

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. –Ephesians 6:12

If we don’t know what our enemy is capable of, what he looks like, and what is within his armory of weapons, we have no hope of fighting him for the souls of the populace that Jesus Christ admonished us to mine.

This world is becoming a very scary place and there is evidence of this on the evening news and all around us. Certainly we can see the silver lining in every cloud and can focus upon the positive, and often we should… but never should we become so focused upon the positive that we forget who the enemy is, what he looks like, what he is capable of, and how serious this battle is.

We need to be reminded.

I need to be reminded.

I never want to become complacent or forget what is waiting and determined, always “on duty,” creating new and illicit ways to bring the souls of our young to him.

If you’re not evangelizing our country through your own methods that God has spoken to your heart about, please begin to listen to Him. The time is short and the days grow more and more evil. Find your ministry and begin to sow seeds for Christ. The time is short.

What God Has Taught Me Lately

It’s been a few weeks or so since I started blogging here at Word Press and yet it almost feels like months in some respects.  I’ve learned a lot considering what these weeks have brought forth within and around me.  I’m a creäture of habit and I don’t care for change; never have! I don’t want any part of it if I can help it because when I get comfortable, I like to settle in and take root.

Well, God moved me out of where I was blogging, practically by force I guess one could say, but the change has been great! This community is mature, kind, respectful, and interesting. There never fails to be quite literally countless blogs on a variety of topics when I just want to sit back and catch up with y’all.  The bloggers here are just brilliant, creative, and overall nice people! And there are so many of you that I have yet to get to know. This is a great opportunity to blog here and I’m so glad that I have become a part of all of this.

I’m grateful for the astonishing amount of views and comments my blogs have received as a new member here. I never expected to acquire ten blog followers within the first few weeks of this new site, and I really appreciate those of you who are interested enough in what I write that you want to read more! It’s flattering, to say the least. I appreciate you! I also appreciate those of you who click the like button, and who care enough to leave me a comment. It’s like a positive attention stroke when someone bothers to read and/or comment, and again, it makes it all worthwhile and I am grateful.

God is teaching me that when He shuts one door and it seems as if it will break my heart that I need to trust Him, because He’s already opening up a window as wide as can be. In my ignorance, I don’t have a clue how wonderful that fresh air is going to feel going in and coming out and so I need to trust Him… one hundred percent and never doubt in His judgment and plan for my life. God knows best and He always has something good for me when He allows change in my life. I need to learn to embrace change, no matter if it initially makes me feel uncomfortable.

I’m so excited about the possibilities that are happening to me personally, due to some of these changes and because of others. My life has always been an adventure and now is no exception. I never know what will happen next and life is rarely, if ever, dull. I’m a very lucky woman and it is all due to the presence of God in my life.

I made a very intense, firm commitment to God that was different from any ever made before. I began to sincerely attempt to live my life according to the bible. While this hasn’t been at all easy, it’s been incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. In my past, I always loved God, but I had never really taken seriously the idea of attempting to be pleasing to Him in every way. I was more concerned with pleasing myself according to the world’s standards than with pleasing God. I made a lot of stupid mistakes in judgment living in this manner, unfortunately, but this is part of growing spiritually and I recognize that we make errors along the way so that we can mature as Christians.

At any rate, God has me on the accelerated learning plan, it seems to me. Things have happened that have been a little shocking at times, and extremely unsettling.  It’s been unpredictable and nerve-wracking, but also awe-inspiring. I won’t get into all of what’s been going on now, but I’m in amazement at everything I’m learning. I want to save some of this to meditate on and share with all of you at another time soon.

God bless you, Word Press Bloggers, and have a wonderful upcoming week.

A Kindle Vs The Book

There’s always something we’re told that we have to purchase in order to be whole these days, isn’t there? I’m talking about the latest product that the media tells us that we have to experience if we want to be happy and content in our lives.

One of the contraptions to hit the market that I’m actually beginning to see around the populace is the Kindle. I was sitting at the doctor’s office the other day, waiting a lengthy time to be seen, and noted an older couple companionably reading their small Kindles’ together.

These black plastic-looking items were the size of a paperback and I admit I had some curiosity about them. My eyes kept returning to the pair as I struggled internally, wondering about the Kindle, but also  possessively noting the wonderful feel and smell of my own small, badly-weathered paperback book. As I turned the pages oh-so-carefully, I noticed that they were a little yellowed and stained too, due to age and the elements, probably from spending time in a storage room at some point, I would imagine.

It occurred to me then that this feeling would be gone once I purchased the Kindle and began to read books in that way, instead of going to the half-price bookstore and browsing through their library to my heart’s content. The feeling of spending time in person seeking the perfect book, and the overwhelming adrenaline rush when finding one that appeals – well, I don’t think there’s a comparison. There would be no more giving in and going down the book aisle at the grocery store, feeling decadent and anything but frugal as I considered paying the outrageous price for a new book, of all things. These remarkable pleasure rushes would be a thing of the past, if I broke down and bought the Kindle.

The Kindle is intriguing, to be sure, but I’m not certain that I’m so intrigued that I’m going to give up the solid paperback or hardback-covered, treasure-in-my-hands, experience. And when I find one of these lovely’s in large print? Oh, to die for!

For example, I just got the brand new paperback from the Twilight series, “Breaking Dawn.” This is a beauty and is probably over seven hundred pages long! It’s in large print and I carefully laid it where I could admire and think about reading it for the last week or so, savoring the thought of the matter before actually engaging in it. Every time I lay eyes on that very thick, overwhelmingly delightful looking novel, my mouth practically waters. I just don’t think I can acquire the same experience from the Kindle.

To Kindle or not to Kindle?

For me right now, no.

Obama Administration Opposes FDR Prayer At WWII Memorial

I am disturbed by the political article that follows, about the Obama administration’s decision to oppose FDR prayer at the WWII Memorial.

This view on such matters is becoming increasingly predictable in that it seems that everything to do with God is opposed and done away with. This is distressing that there is such an outcry at a mere public expression of faith in a country where the majority of Americans still believe.

This isn’t the first time that the Obama administration has opposed something religious and it likely won’t be the last. For Christians who are Independent, however, like myself, this isn’t a wise move for President Obama, and most especially with an upcoming election around the corner — no,  it’s not a wise move at all.

Separation of church and state does not mean that we do away with all mention of God and faith;  it simply means that as a nation we do not have or insist upon only one belief system. All faiths are welcome, as is the lack of faith in our country. People have religious freedom in this nation — this is what separation of church and state should stand for. Unfortunately, secularism is becoming “anti-theism” and that is very dangerous for America.

It’s also not a good thing that our American president, who claims Christianity, is consistently found rejecting the very faith he claims. More American citizens need to speak out about this kind of behavior, and we should write the president directly, expressing our distaste with his administration’s perspective on these kinds of issues. I find this happening far too frequently to be a matter of mere coincidence and I don’t like it.

Obama Administration Opposes FDR Prayer at WWII Memorial

Read more here:

Republican lawmakers and conservative activists are expressing outrage after the Obama administration announced its objection to adding President Franklin Roosevelt’s D-Day prayer to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

wwii_memorial.jpg

The objection was noted during a a congressional hearing on Rep. Bill Johnson’s, R-Ohio, bill — the “World War II Memorial Prayer Act of 2011.”

“It is unconscionable that the Obama administration would stand in the way of honoring our nation’s distinguished World War II veterans,” Johnson said. “President Roosevelt’s prayer gave solace, comfort and strength to our nation and our brave warriors as we fought against tyranny and oppression.”

Roosevelt asked the nation to join him in prayer as U.S. and allied troops launched the invasion that led to the defeat of Nazi Germany. He asked God to give the allied troops courage and faith, saying, “With thy blessing we shall prevail over the unholy forces of our enemy.”

But Robert Abbey, the director of the Bureau of Land Management, said any plaque or inscription of the prayer would “dilute” the memorial’s central message and therefore “should not be altered.”

“It is not a judgment as to the merit of this new commemoration, simply that altering the Memorial in this way, as proposed in HR 2070, will necessarily dilute this elegant memorial’s central message and its ability to clearly convey that message to move, educate, and inspire its many visitors,” Abbey said in written testimony.

Abbey explained to lawmakers that altering the memorial would be contrary to the Commemorative Works Act — a law that prohibits “encroachment by a new commemoration on a existing one.” It also respects the design of the “completed work of civic art without alteration or addition of new elements.”

Johnson told Fox News that the administration’s objection should “give all Americans a great deal of concern.”

“For there to be objections to demonstrating a faith in God at critical points in our nation’s history — particularly D-Day — boggles my mind,” Johnson said. “I was very surprised they were going to object.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council said it’s not all that surprising.

“This is further evidence that the administration has created an environment that is hostile towards American history — but in particular towards Christianity,” Perkins told Fox News. “I hope America wakes up and realizes what this administration is doing to this country and how they want to radically and fundamentally change America.”

“They want to erase every aspect of America’s heritage,” Perkins said of Obama’s administration. “Any president, any official in history that has embraced Christianity, is no longer welcome in this administration. That’s the environment they are creating.”

Johnson’s bill, which had bipartisan support, is expected to pass a committee vote and he anticipates the full House will support the legislation.

Cashiers Refuse To Let Broke Woman Buy Groceries With Loose Change

Many are struggling in this economy. As Christians, when we’re out of our homes at the store, driving in our cars,  shopping in the malls, or running our many errands, do we come upon those whom we could help? Do we stop and help them?

Are we reaching out to others and giving them what they need, or do we offer the very convenient “I’ll pray for you..” and leave them hungry, unable to feed their families or them-selves?

Jesus was pretty clear about what was expected from His followers when it came time to feeding and clothing the sick or hungry.  As I read the article below, I have to wonder how anyone didn’t step up and pay this woman’s bill, or at least offer something so that she didn’t have to “break out the change.” Yes, I know we’re all struggling, but Jesus is watching. God was there that day in the store as she struggled — and I wonder what He thought about the woman’s tears and everyone who saw them and did nothing.

We have to begin to become aware of one another’s plights right now and get out of ourselves, reaching out to be of service. This is what Jesus Christ did;  it’s truly what we, as Christians, are expected and supposed to do.

====================

When you are making a sizable purchase and only have coins in your wallet, it can be irritating for the cashier. But how does that irritation compare to the tears of a woman struggling to feed her family?

A Portland woman recently scraped together $32 in quarters to buy groceries at the local Save-a-Lot. “We had nothing to feed out children with,” she toldKATU News. “So we broke out change.”

She waited for the check-out to clear, and apologized to the cashier for the 124 coins she had in her hands. “Sorry, it’s hard times right now,” she told him.

Save-a-Lot can only accept $5 of change, the clerk informed her.

“Money’s money,” she said. He refused. “I was mortified. Mortified.”

The woman then went to the one-stop shop Fred Meyer, but the store manager insisted that she use the change machine to convert her coin to paper. The woman could not afford, however, the 10 percent cut that the machine would take.

She started to cry.

Gossip III – After the Destruction – Why Do They Do It?

If you readers wonder why I’m belaboring this issue, it’s because I’m attempting to learn something about gossip and understand this kind of behavior. As one who is psychologically-inclined to attempt to analyze, I also attempt to look at the why’s of something before I judge it too harshly, without compassion.

Certainly we’ve all had someone gossip about us at one time or another. Sometimes the gossip was mild and didn’t really impact us or our lives; sometimes the gossip was more serious and the intent behind it was malicious.

It helps to know why these kinds of things are happening in our lives. If we can understand what’s gone wrong with the individual(s) who engage in this destructive activity, we can better forgive and eventually forget the hurt and pain they have created in our lives. We obviously can’t hold a grudge or be angry about harmful gossip indefinitely because that will only do us even more harm.  When we see that this loathsome behavior is not really about us, or that it’s honestly not personal, that it’s actually more about the one doing the gossiping, we can move forward no matter what was said.

We are who we are, regardless what people think. What is gossiped and spread around is only words and assumption. No one really knows the truth behind the rumors unless we are willing to share it with them. In the interim, we are children of the Most High God,  and He knows who we are, despite the rumors, outright lies, and twisted truths. God knows our hearts.

The following two readings were so helpful to me. I hope they are to you as well.

Gossip And Rumors: Why Do People Do It?

Let’s say you’ve just heard a REALLY juicy rumor about someone you know. It may not be true, but it’s too good to keep to yourself. Your first instinct is to hop online and IM it to all your friends.

We’ve all had that kind of urge. But why? Here are some possible reasons:

To feel superior
When people are feeling bad about themselves, they sometimes think they’ll feel better if there were someone worse off than they are. It’s like, it’s okay being near the bottom, as long as they’re not actually on the bottom. The easiest way for them to make sure someone else is on the bottom is to make up a rumor that puts him or her there.

To feel like part of the group
If everybody else is gossiping or spreading rumors, you might feel you have to do the same thing in order to fit in. When you’re “in on the secret,” you’re in the group. Unfortunately, the person who the gossip or rumor is about is usually left out of the group for the same reason that you’re let into it.

For attention
When you know a secret that nobody knows, or are the first person in your group to hear a rumor, it can make you the center of attention. A rumor or piece of gossip is sometimes like money; telling it to people is like buying their attention, if only for a few minutes. You might even save up a really scandalous rumor, waiting for the right moment to blab so you get the maximum amount of attention for it.

For control or power
Certain people always want to be in control and at the top of the ladder. You probably know at least one person who needs to be the leader, say what goes, and make all the decisions. When people are at the top of the popularity scale, or are determined to climb higher, one way they do this is by reducing the “status” of another person. Spreading rumors and gossip is one of the main ways people reduce another person’s status, especially among girls. It’s like one caveman beating up another caveman for control of the tribe-only it’s done with cruel whispers and petty remarks instead of fists.

Out of jealousy or a need for revenge
If you’re jealous of someone’s looks, popularity, or money, you might gossip about that person in order to hurt him or her. If you feel that someone’s done something bad to you, or deserves to be hurt, making up a rumor might satisfy your sense of justice.

Out of boredom
Did you know that in many studies, this was the #1 reason why young people say they spread rumors? Sometimes, a period where everyone is happy and getting along just seems kind of-dull. Spreading juicy dish might shake things up a bit, or get two people to start a fight, and that would make life a little more exciting. All those tabloid newspapers and TV shows full of celebrity gossip are pure proof that rumors are a popular form of entertainment.

We asked IML’ers why they think people spread rumors, and here’s what some of you said:

“I think people spread rumors and gossip to hurt that person’s feelings because they’re insecure, like bullies.”

“I bet people start rumors to hurt people or because they think the truth is too boring.”

“There are so many reasons! They may misunderstand a situation, want revenge, or just want to be a part of school life.”

“I think that people spread rumors and gossip because they are either bored, mad at that person, trying to stir up some activity, or to get attention.”

Why do people gossip?

Written by M.Farouk Radwan, MSc.

The person who is laughing out loud, capturing the attention of everyone in the room while gossiping about someone is not as happy as he seems.

From the outside he seems strong, popular, interesting and in control but if you peaked inside his mind at the time he was gossiping you would have found things that you would never want to find in yourself.

You would have found low self esteem, jealousy, frustration, anger and weakness. Does this sound serious? Then read this article to know the truth about gossiping.

I couldn’t do it there so I will do it here

Sam was treated badly by a guy he barely knows but he couldn’t reply back or do something about it right away. Sam went home frustrated, angry and eager to revenge.

Since Sam didn’t have the courage to settle this problem face to face with that person he decided to go out with his friends to change his mood and when he arrived there he started gossiping about him!!

Do you know why Sam was gossiping? Because he couldn’t take revenge directly and so he
was trying to take it indirectly. Yes Sam was feeling weak and frustrated and this was the main reason behind his gossiping.

I am worthy, believe me!!

People who judge others, who try to put them down or who gossip sometimes have the goal of making themselves appear more worthy. What does a phrase like: “Did you see that guy, he can’t even do anything right” mean?

It means, “Did you see that guy? He is nothing compared to me, I can do everything right while he can’t, i am worthy!!”

Sadly when people feel less worthy than others or when they feel inferior they start gossiping about others in order to feel good about themselves. After all if everyone become incompetent then surely they will become better than them all!!

I am jealous

Sometimes the main reason behind gossiping is jealousy. When someone feels jealous of someone else he might gossip about him in order to let people hate him.

Sadly jealousy stems from lack of self confidence and gossiping about someone because you are jealous of him only means that you need to fix your self confidence.

Accept me, please, I beg you

Lovers buy gifts for each other in order to strengthen their love and this is a very good thing but can someone give a big gift to a stranger in order to be accepted by him?

Yes it happens, people who feel worthless can do such a thing. By sacrificing some of their core principals and by gossiping about someone in front of a person they just met they hope to get one thing from that new friend which is acceptance.

Going down on your kneels and telling that person “Accept me, i beg you” is the same as scarifying your principles just to get a sign of acceptance as tiny as a smile.

No, its not related to boredom

Some people might try to defend gossiping by saying that its the result of boredom but this is incorrect. The truth is that boredom will lead to gossiping if the person is weak, frustrated, feeling inferior, lacking confidence or jealous.

However if the person was free of psychological weaknesses he won’t gossip even if he was bored simply because gossiping won’t be an option.

If you still gossip then its time to stop, be strong.

Gossip II – An Accuser of the Brethren

What does an “accuser of the brethren” actually look like these days?  The bible talks about this a lot. Satan was called “the accuser of the brethren” within the bible. Unfortunately, there are people who are following in his footsteps and they are rife all over the internet. Many of them consider themselves good church-going Christians!

This was the primary shocking fact that I came across. I wouldn’t expect good Christians to engage in this kind of behavior. I expect Satan to engage in it, of course, along with those who are “sold out to Satan.”  The last people I would expect for this to be a problem with, however, are those who claim to love Jesus Christ, who claim Christianity. I guess we learn something new everyday within the body of Christ. This is something I would have preferred not to have to discover.

The article, below, is one of the better readings I’ve discovered lately about gossip and what God really thinks about those “accusers of the brethren.”

Gossip: An Unruly Evil Full Of Deadly Poison

1. UNRULY EVIL … FULL OF DEADLY POISON
See how the father of lies gathers ready allies who go around spreading “information” with their tongues. James calls the tongue “an unruly evil, full of deadly poison” (Jas 3:8). Further “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work” (Jas 3:16).

This week we are blessed with a timely article on “Gossip” by Pastor Prabhudas Koshy to shed the light of God’s Word on the current spate of backbiting and evil speaking, sowing discord in Calvary. God spare His people. My request: if you love God, stop. Keep praying and have no part in gossip – whether listening or spreading.

2. Gossip, A Terrible Spiritual Malady

A Grim Picture: Gossipers Among the Reprobates

“Whisperers,” people who engage in malicious gossips, are grouped in the Bible together with the reprobates. In Romans 1:28-32, the Apostle Paul paints a grim picture of reprobates – those who have rejected the Lord and have embraced a lifestyle of sin. “And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

In this list of abominable evils of reprobate men, we not only find what we normally regard as gross sins: greed, deceit, adultery, murder and so forth but also what many sometimes view as a “small problem,” namely, gossip and slander. Does this come as a surprise? Paul said that gossips and bad-mouthers were in the same league as God-haters, sexual perverts and murderers.

The commonly used term “gossip” is derived from a word with the idea of “whispering.” It means “to indulge in idle talk or rumours about others, or spreading of sensational stories.” It can also mean “idle or malicious talk about others.” In the Bible, “backbiter” and “slanderer” are from the same word from which the word “Devil” originates. A slanderer is one who defames, or talks maliciously, or spreads damaging information, or speaks ill of others. Slander is the work of the Devil. In fact, the Bible says that Satan is the “accuser of our brethren” (Revelation 12:10). If you are a whisperer or accuser of the brethren, even though unintentionally, you are an agent of the Devil! Those who slander are on his team!

As we can see, gossip is a close cousin of slander. God’s Word places both in the same cupboard as murder and other wickedness – sins worthy of death. According to the Scripture, anyone whose mouth is out of control does not have a right relationship with God. “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain” (James 1:26).

As a Christian, do you occasionally slip up and commit a murder here and there? Or do you occasionally burglarise a home or steal things from the store? You may think this is silly to ask. Of course, a Christian does not behave that way. Then, just as we are not to commit murder or theft, we are also not to gossip or slander. According to Romans 1:28-32, gossip is as worthy of divine judgment as murder.

Like Paul, the Apostle Peter brings to our attention a sin that often goes hand in hand with the sin of “gossip.” “But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters” (1 Peter 4:15). Notice that a “busybody” is placed in the same company as “murderers, thieves and evildoers.” A busybody is a meddler, a person who seeks confidential information about others, a snoop and a nosy person.

A busybody is another close relative of the gossiper – a person who meddles with the affairs of others. He is like a peeping-tom who snoops and spies. A busybody is the investigator for gossipers and rumour-mongers, seeking to uncover sensational details and to whisper the latest news. Sometimes busybodies are persons who have too much time on their hands, with nothing better to do than to talk about matters of others. “And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not” (1 Timothy 5:13). The modern explosion of communication technology, such as telephones, e-mails, etc., has made this evil even more frequent and intense!

Not A Little Bad Habit, But A Smoking Firewood!
By now you are aware that anything which is placed in the same category as murder and other gross sins must be a serious sin – something that should not be taken lightly. But unfortunately, Christians do not usually consider gossip and its related activities as sin. In a decade of pastoral ministry, I have encountered Christians who live like they are obsessed busybodies, whisperers and bad-mouthers. Such people cause irreparable damage to the body of Christ. “The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly” (Proverbs 26:22). Mean, vicious accusations and rumours have ripped out the heart and soul of many fellow Christians and leaders, draining them of their love, enthusiasm and desire to live for God. They have split churches, created strife, and promoted division and turmoil.

A church can be free from wild and destructive strife only when its members carefully avoid any conversation which is gossip or slander, and also cease from being busybodies. “Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth” (Proverbs 26:20).

A Serious and Subtle Sin
This serious malady is a very subtle and ambiguous one. We must learn to differentiate a constructive and good conversation from gossip; otherwise it would be most unfortunate. For instance, a discussion between two church leaders about a problem concerning a church member should not be considered gossip, especially, when they discuss the issue for corrective purpose. But they must take special care not to spread the “news” to others under the pretext of “concern.”

If a person continues to indulge in destructive sins or to teach harmful doctrines, even after he has been lovingly warned, it may become necessary for him to be exposed for the good of everyone else. The Bible does not categorise the act of exposing unrepentant characters as gossip. Paul, who warned against gossip, exposed publicly several ungodly characters in the church — “Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works” (2 Timothy 4:14). Another time he wrote, “And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus; Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some” (2 Timothy 2:17).

A gossip occurs when negative “information” is given about someone who is not present in that conversation. Whenever one speaks of another person in less than a favourable way or in a manner that is fault-finding, slandering, or finger-pointing, he engages in gossip. It is generally a negative conversation, which focuses on nothing good or constructive, only bad feelings about the person discussed.

Many a time gossips begin like this — “I hate to say anything about this to you, but I’m ‘concerned’ about so and so.” At other times, the gossipers will seek you out as their “confidantes” to unload their “heavy hearts” about their concerns. “I’m very troubled about so and so and I don’t know who else I can share this with.”

In reality, the gossiper is not sincerely concerned about solving the problem, only in talking about it, or stirring up a conversation about someone’s weakness. “A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends” (Proverbs 16:28). A sound conversation should always be directed towards solving a problem rather than aggravating a problem, though in certain circumstances a good solution may not be achieved quickly.

Any person who is genuinely concerned about solving a problem should go and confront the person privately and express his concern. Or else he should go privately to the pastor in order to seek his help to deal with and settle the problem. In all these, we must keep a loving spirit which is willing to forgive one another, esteem one another, restore and renew the brotherly relationship.

Gossip thrives on the negative, the controversial and the sensational. Going around and telling others about someone else’s fault or problem, before or during the efforts to solve the problem, is harmful and does not help to resolve the problem. It will only cause us to gossip further and to sin.

Things to Remember About Gossip
* Unrepentant and persistent habit of gossip is a clear sign of the unregenerate spirit of a man. He faces the same consequence as a murderer unless there is repentance (Romans 1:32). God holds you accountable to your words (Matthew 12:36-37).
* The person who gossips to you about others, also gossips to others about you.
* Gossip and slander disqualify a person from spiritual leadership (1 Timothy 3:11; James 3:2).
* Gossip often masks itself as pretentious concerns for others.
* Gossip often thrives upon secrecy. Where secrecy is removed, gossip is hampered.
* Gossip always contributes to a problem and never to a solution.
* Gossip always distorts and exaggerates, and is never a reliable source of truth.
* Those who gossip and slander are not in right fellowship with God (Romans 1:28-32). Those who gossip will rarely get answers to prayer, and often face persistent, unexplainable problems (Psalms 66:18; Proverbs 21:23; Proverbs 6:12-15).

What to do about Gossip
Though the sin of gossip is subtle, it must be recognised, acknowledged and confessed as sin. Then we must seek the Lord’s forgiveness. Repent by surrendering our tongue to Christ. And never gossip or bad-mouth again (1 John 1:9; 2 Corinthians 7:10).

If you can’t say something good or encouraging about others, then keep your mouth shut (Ephesians 4:29). If you find any error in a person, tell him to his face with an intent to help. If he listens to your advice, let that matter be forgiven and forgotten. Criticism can never be “constructive” if it is expressed to anyone else other than the one who is being criticised. If your “friends” start bad-mouthing others to you, stop them in their tracks. Refuse to be a partaker of their sin. Avoid association with people who gossip. “He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips” (Proverbs 20:19). It is better that you suggest to the person who brings juicy or even provocative news that he should discuss the matter with the “accused” person before he takes it seriously.

If all of us do this, we can avoid breaking long-term friendships or creating unnecessary strife. Many long-term friends and co-workers have been separated by talebearers. Don’t trust a gossiper at all, he will betray you later – “A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter” (Proverbs 11:13).

Expose gossip, a work of darkness, by reporting it to the pastor or elder that they may confront and offer correction. Gossip should be treated as any other vile sin. “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them” (Ephesians 5:11).

May we all resolve within our hearts like the Psalmist, “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me” (Psalm 39:1).
