Good Christian Bitches

GCB (TV series)

GCB stands for “Good Christian Bitches.”

This is a new television show on ABC,  Sunday nights.

This show mocks America’s Christians.

Surprise, surprise….

This is just another straw on the camel’s back that makes it clear that we’re spiraling down as a nation, as a world, into the muck.

Reminds me of the primary message of this man’s blog, “Now the End Begins.”  His blog makes it clear through many examples where we’re at, biblically speaking in America and this world. It is pretty sobering stuff, in my opinion.

Christians should and probably will take notice, but the unbelieving most likely won’t recognize or accept the signs; it’s all just more coincidence and life changes due to differences in religious demographics and more and more people moving away from religion, in their perspective. What they don’t recognize is that this is yet another promise within the bible that is now happening. People are losing their religion.

When Hollywood puts a television show on Sunday night during the family viewing hours that actually denigrates the religious beliefs of the majority in America, it’s time that we awaken from our trance, I think. Not only does this disgusting offering denigrate Christian religious beliefs, but it insults, demeans, and mocks the religious themselves. Since when is this all right on the local channels between 7pm – 10pm?

There’s pretty much nothing sacred anymore.

Christian publisher Tessie DeVore told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column that the show, which features the tagline “For Heaven’s sake, don’t let God get in the way of a good story!” could put Christians in an unfairly bad light.

“I find the title offensive. I don’t think those two words should be combined,” she said. “A show like this can damage perceptions [of Christians in this country].”

It also could be a slippery slope for future shows, said Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education for the Parents’ Television Council tells Tarts.

“In the past, we’ve raised concerns about changing language standards for television,” Henson said. “Once a particular profanity or obscenity has been embraced by a particular show, it quickly becomes mainstream.”

And Yana Walton from the Women’s Media Center said Christians aren’t the only ones who should be upset.

“It is not an appropriate term to use to describe any woman, regardless of their faith,” Walton said. “Entertainment media, especially music and films, have been normalizing misogynistic language for years.”

But despite the seemingly outrageous title, Dan Gainor, head of the Culture and Media Institute, is not surprised that the pilot has gone this far already.

“ABC is doubling down on the offensive by also approving ‘Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23,’ following up on the CBS show ‘$#*! My Dad Says.’ And this continued decline is unsurprising,” he said.

“The media keeps trying to redefine words and morality to mean what they say, not what they really do mean,” Gainor added. “One wonders which network will be the first to drop the F-bomb in a TV title and whether the FCC will even intervene.”

Even if the title holds up, some are looking forward to the show.

“ABC’s core viewership is Christian, so the goal of the show won’t be to attack Christianity. Just like the book, this is a show by Christians, for (mostly) Christians, to enjoy a little prime-time self-deprecation,” Los Angeles-based entertainment expert, Jenn Hoffman said.

A representative for ABC declined to comment on the story.

Waiting for a Star to Fall

I hear your name whispered on the wind
It’s a sound that makes me cry
I hear a song blow again and again
Through my mind and I don’t know why
I wish I didn’t feel so strong about you
Like happiness and love revolve around you

Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
So many people love you baby
That must be what you are

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That’s where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

I’ve learned to feel what I cannot see
But with you I lose that vision
I don’t know how to dream your dream
So I’m all caught up in superstition
I want to reach out and pull you to me
Who says I should let a wild one go free

Trying to catch your heart
Is like trying to catch a star
But I can’t love you this much baby
And love you from this far

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That’s where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

Waiting (however long…)
I don’t like waiting (I’ll wait for you…)
It’s so hard waiting (don’t be too long…)
Seems like waiting (makes me love you even more…)

Waiting for a star to fall
And carry your heart into my arms
That’s where you belong
In my arms baby, yeah

All You Zombies

All You Zombies Lyrics

Holy Moses met the Pharaoh
Yeah, he tried to set him straight
Looked him in the eye,
“Let my people go!”

Holy Moses on the mountain
High above the golden calf
Went to get the Ten Commandments
Yeah, he’s just gonna break ’em in half!

All you zombies hide your faces,
All you people in the street,
All you sittin’ in high places,
The pieces gonna fall on you

No one ever spoke to Noah,
They all laughed at him instead
Workin’ on his ark,
Workin’ all by himself

Only Noah saw it comin’,
Forty days and forty nights,
Took his sons and daughters with him,
Yeah, they were the Israelites!

All you zombies hide your faces,
All you people in the street,
All you sittin’ in high places,
The rain’s gonna fall on you

Holy Father, what’s the matter?
Where have all your children gone?
Sittin’ in the dark,
Livin’ all by themselves,
You don’t have to hide anymore!

All you zombies show your faces,
All you people in the street,
All you sittin’ in high places,
The pieces gonna fall on you!

All you zombies show your faces,
(I see you out there!)
All you people in the street,
(Let’s see you!)
All you sittin in high places,
It’s all gonna fall on you!

Cruelty & Barbarism Still Abounds

Wild Boar

Wild Boar (Photo credit: siwild)

As most of you should know by now if you read me regularly, I’m an avid animal lover and take part in animal rescue. I’m a lover of wildlife and the environment. I’m against barbarism and cruelty in all its forms for all animal life. I know we have to kill animals to eat and live, but there are acceptable humane ways to go about this. I’m completely against the hunting/killing of animals of any kind purely to provide sport to those who enjoy the thrill of the kill.

It’s come to my attention that here in my home state, Texas, we have a feral hog population problem that has become so out of control that our governor, Rick Perry, has agreed to allow the killing of these hogs from helicopters. He is also allowing coyotes, bobcats, and red fox to be killed aerially too.

There is also a disgusting television show that has appeared on the horizon that displays the viciousness of this, encouraging the slaughter of millions of these feral hogs by hunters using a variety of night vision toys and weaponry to do their murderous deeds. The more bloody the better, apparently, in our barbaric American culture where absolute cruelty to animals is still considered sport and celebrated.

We need to get involved and join PETA in an attempt to put a stop to animal cruelty wherever it is found, and even if you don’t live in Texas, please write to Governor Rick Perry about this barbarism and demand that he find another way to stop the breeding of these hogs through sterilization or something more humane. This is possible, and control of these hogs can be  handled for probably a fraction of the cost of what is being spent now to assault and torture these swine.

Feral hogs /wild boars are some of the more intelligent of creatures and the pregnant sows are being murdered with their unborn and born babies as one of the more lauded “trophies” to supposedly be proud of in this so-called “hunt.” There is no reason for this kind of cruelty to occur in a country where we consider ourselves to be a civilized people.

Please send donations to the organizations that are trying to stop this slaughter and write letters to Governor Rick Perry and even your representatives in congress to stop this. Thank you.

The gun-toting family on A&E’s new reality show “American Hoggers” are under fire from an animal rights group for the gruesome way the pigs are “tied up and shot” on the show … TMZ has learned.

In case you haven’t seen it — “American Hoggers” follows Jerry “Hog Boss” Campbell … and his family as they hunt and kill feral pigs … armed with hunting dogs and guns. It’s pretty graphic … even for A&E.

The show just premiered this week — and it didn’t take long for PETA to take notice. In fact, the animal rights org. has just released a statement saying, “the Campbells’ show promotes cruel animal-control measures and gross mistreatment of wildlife.”

PETA claims it acknowledges that feral pigs can be problematic in parts of Texas, but the group says, “If property owners insist on lethal control, then feral hogs should be cage-trapped and afforded a quick, painless death.”

We reached out to A&E for comment, and so far haven’t received a response.

Are You a Safe Harbor for Others?

Jesus is considered by scholars such as Weber ...

Image via Wikipedia

I was just thinking how wonderful it is to be able to be my real self with other Christians, or with just everyone in general, whether they are Christian or not.

I’m really a pretty honest person. I’ll tell you the truth even if it makes me look bad or shows me in a less than holy light. I’m definitely far from perfect and don’t have all the answers about this Christian lifestyle either. There are actually things I don’t understand about the bible or Christianity, imagine that! (grin)

While I call myself a “bible warrior,” it doesn’t mean that I’m a “bible expert.” I greatly value other people’s thoughts, opinion, and interpretations of the bible and try to learn from them. “Bible warrior” means that I believe in the bible and will defend it and my belief in it, God, and the good news of Jesus Christ, to the death if necessary. I’m willing to stand up for what I believe in and fight for my right to believe in it. I will fight for the freedom of religion in this country for myself, my child, and for all of us. I will fight for the right not to believe as well.

Anyway, I’m veering off of my topic, which has to do with being genuine and honest. I can’t learn from others if I’m not honest. Being honest is key to learning and growing in Jesus Christ; it’s key to learning and growing in my life. Being able to admit my mistakes, fears, imperfections, and weaknesses is HUGE; I can’t progress if I can’t do this. I often compare myself to other Christians, despite the fact that I hate doing this. I do it in order to see where I am at, compared to where they are at. It’s probably stupid, though, because I honestly feel that God deals with each one of us differently than He does the other of us. We are unique in our “lesson plan” in Christ. What I need, someone else may not need, and visa versa; still, I learn from watching certain Christian ladies here and at church and I attempt to emulate them in my walk with Christ. Through comparing myself to them, I can see where I could benefit from doing something more like they are, etc.

Jesus

When I’m talking about being honest, I’m not talking about admitting our real names online or giving out our private information about ourselves, because sometimes that just isn’t safe or wise in these times we’re living in; I’m talking about being who we really are and not keeping our guard up with one another. I’m talking about really being there for one another. There are people here at Word Press whom I’m slowly getting to know in Christ and out of Christ, whom I feel that I can be extremely honest with, whom I can admit most anything to. I think this is so important if I want to really grow spiritually. I think Jesus wanted us to be able to trust and confide deeply in one another, don’t you? If we can’t really love, trust, and confide in one another, how could someone who doesn’t believe be able to share themselves honestly with us? We need to be a safe, non-judgmental harbor for all to come to.

Can you tell the truth about who you really are or about how your walk with Christ really is?

Happy Birthday Memories

Happy Birthday to me.. (chuckle)  Yup. I just turned another year older. The last year seemed to move a bit slower, which is fine with me. Anyway, I had a really great birthday yesterday and celebrated most of the weekend, amazingly.

Bathroom towels.

Image via Wikipedia

Friday evening, my daughter and I got a late start after she got out of school and we headed out to do some shopping at Target. We selected a couple of sets of some really nice, oversized bath towels. We were overdue for some nice new towels, and it was fun picking them out. We got some clothes and other assorted stuff that I had put off picking up for a while. When we finished it was pretty late so we headed to a well-known after hours coffee shop that has the best hamburgers and specials all hours of the day and night. After munching out, we came home and grabbed some sleep.

Saturday morning, we woke up a bit late after sleeping in, and went and got new haircuts/styles as we tried out a new place that is really close to my home. It was a lot less expensive than what I’m used to paying, which is always a great thing, but I think I like my usual place and hairdresser better. I kind of like the new look though; it’s a nice change and my child loved her new “side bangs..”

We came back home, took some naps later that day, and dressed for dinner and the movies. We had Chinese food at my fave chinese restaurant last night. Too delicious! Here’s what we selected from the menu:

Grand Chinese Cuisine

Grand Chinese Cuisine (Photo credit: Sifu Renka)

Shrimp with Bacon

Combination Fried Rice

Crabmeat Rangoons

Hot chinese tea with sugar

Mmmmm… it was just the best, all of it!  Anyway, so then we’re off to the late movies. We saw a double feature!

First we saw “The Vow,” and then went into the midnight movie and saw Tyler Perry’s “Good Deeds.” I loved both movies but “Good Deeds” was the best. It was a wonderful movie with a great message. It was definitely worth a look-see if you’re wanting to see something that makes you feel good. We got home super late.

Tyler Perry mixes it up with the media on the ...

Today has been a really quiet day that was capped off by another great dinner out with a best friend and my daughter. We had some awesome seafood, King crab legs, lobster tail, fried shrimp, shrimp scampi, baked potato, and Ceasar salad. Am I making you hungry yet? 🙂

My best friends gave me some sweet, thoughtful gifts and I had a wonderful weekend running all around. We really enjoyed getting out to the movies and the many dinners as we don’t go out too often these days since we’re watching our pennies.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I’m really tired now, though, and am just gonna lay back for a few days and recover. I’m normally kind of a homebody, but my daughter’s birthday is coming up next and she’s going to be celebrating with various friends and me as her chauffeur. Gotta rest up. She’s turning thirteen.

I hope everyone’s weekend was as nice as mine was. Birthdays are fun!

When Christians Differ

Christians are rarely going to agree one hundred percent on everything. We all have our own opinions and slightly different interpretations of what the bible is saying to  God’s people.

There is a chapter within the bible that addresses this and I think it a very wise chapter indeed. It settles the matter of argument between Christians and tell us quite clearly how argument must be handled over the kind of questions of what is sin and what is not, etc.

We need one another in this lost world and a house divided against itself will not stand. It is better for a brother or sister to be closed-mouthed than to fight with one’s Christian brethren and weaken the gospel message that we are all attempting to share. We will not go wrong by keeping our differences to ourselves; there is no need to hammer and pound upon anyone we profess to love.

When I differ with my Christian brethren, I will offer up where I differ and concede that others disagree and will discuss the whys of this and then I will leave it at that. The bible warns me that to do otherwise is not love.

Romans 14
New International Version 1984
The Weak and the Strong

1Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. 2One man’s faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. 3The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. 4Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

5One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7For none of us lives to himself alone and none of us dies to himself alone. 8If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

9For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. 10You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11It is written:

“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
every tongue will confess to God.’”a
12So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.

13Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way. 14As one who is in the Lord Jesus, I am fully convinced that no foodb is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for him it is unclean. 15If your brother is distressed because of what you eat, you are no longer acting in love. Do not by your eating destroy your brother for whom Christ died. 16Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil. 17For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, 18because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men.

19Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. 20Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of food. All food is clean, but it is wrong for a man to eat anything that causes someone else to stumble. 21It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother to fall.

22So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. 23But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

Sexuality and the Single Christian

Our Lord Jesus Christ

Image via Wikipedia

It’s really hard to be a single Christian today in the times we’re living in. When I say “single” Christian, I am including the separated, widowed, and divorced underneath this umbrella.

We single Christians are unmarried and that is what differentiates us from our wedded fellows. We have no legal companion or spouse. We are on our own and life can be stressful when one is forging through it with only the Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father as the loves of our life (sexually-speaking only).

Many times, we are fulfilled by simply turning to the Lord in our loneliness, desires, and needs. The Apostle Paul even discussed turning to God when lonely and unfulfilled. He basically said that if sexuality was an issue, we must marry.

Unfortunately, we cannot all marry these days. Some of us are divorced and are admonished not to remarry, according to the scriptures. Some of us don’t want to marry, but don’t want to be alone either. Some of us are going through a separation through military service to our nation or possibly because there are difficulties within our marriages; maybe marital abuse has become an unfortunate fact of life with our former spouse. There are countless situations I could mention here, each one unique and particular. Thankfully, God knows them all.

Marriage Day

My point is intentionally vague but is meant to offer hope, inspiration, and love to all of you who struggle. God knows our struggles, single Christians. He hears our cries. He understands our loneliness, and the many moods and desires of our hearts. He is the answer to all we are going through. He will bring us through these storms of life in tact. We must never worry or fret that He won’t.

Jesus Christ knew exactly what it was to be a human being with the desires and temptations we endure. Never did Jesus condemn the sexual sinner. He simply said, “go and sin no more…” Jesus was not a condemning individual. He loves every single one of us and understands our struggles because of His own humanity. Despite His obvious divinity, Jesus knows where we are coming from.

God knows the heart. He knows YOUR heart. Your heart is key to God’s understanding and patience with you. Reach out to our Father in Heaven and lean on Him when you struggle internally with your body, desires of the flesh, and internal needs. Search your soul, spend time in prayer, and come to a place of rest and peace in Him. He wants this for each one of us and He will provide it!

There are answers that differ for each one of us because we are unique in Him and our paths are differing and varied. Trust God. Lean not onto your own understanding but seek His will. He will not be far from making Himself clear, I promise.

In the interim, attempt some of the following excellent readings and see if they might help. God bless you in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Apology for Burning the Quran?

Quran

Why is President Obama apologizing for the burning of Quran’s where ever this has occurred?

And why are there no apologies for the burning of bibles everywhere that this happens, all over the world, and in the USA?

The Bible: In the Beginning

Image via Wikipedia

Why isn’t there an apology for threats to execute a Christian pastor in Iran? Why isn’t President Obama doing something about the threat to this Christian pastor’s life? Why isn’t he engaged in attempting to pull out all the stops to halt this execution?

Why are countless Christian believers regularly being murdered in foreign countries but there is no apology forthcoming from those leaders? Why isn’t President Obama making waves about the atrocities that keep occurring to these Christian believers?

Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum bring up some very interesting questions that I am now having to wonder about myself, despite my firm INDEPENDENT status politically.

English: Newt Gingrich

Image via Wikipedia

I’m a bit tired of President Obama bending over backwards to pacify Islamics who are offended at the burning of Quran’s, but who don’t seem to want to offer apologies to Christian believers for the offenses and atrocities also engaged in, which are equally offensive and downright atrocious.

, U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania.

Image via Wikipedia

What is up with this double standard, Mr. President? It’s becoming irritating and inappropriate and a lot of Americans would like some answers.

You can’t be okay with the burning of bibles, American flags, and the desecration of everything religious under the sun, and then whine out an apology to those who don’t appreciate a smoking Quran or three.

Two wrongs don’t make a right but your apologies are making America look weak and pacific. It’s time that we receive some apologies and that you stand up for the religion that you claim, for a change.

A Chicken & Dumpling’s Kinda-Week

A depressed Tom on the railroad tracks awaitin...

Image via Wikipedia

Last week was the kind of week that demands warm, comfort food. It’s chilly outside and is going to get down to about forty degrees here in Texas, overnight.

The entire last week has been a difficult one for me as I’ve felt a little out of sorts, maybe even bordering on depressed a wee bit. I tend to find myself feeling this way when I am frustrated due to feeling as if I am unable to communicate well; I can get just a little bummed and kind of retreat inward, I guess, when something bothers me.

Anyway, I got up this morning and had coffee and whipped up a mean batch of chicken and dumplings, heavy on the dumplings. My child is looking forward to a delicious late supper and is working on her history project at the moment. Bring on the cold weather; we’re all good here! I’m cheered up already. 🙂

Ancient Greeks and Egyptians praised chicken soup’s healing properties, and twenty-first century scientists have backed them up. One bowl gives your body much-needed liquids, electrolytes, protein, and nutrients. This homemade version is a better option than the sodium-filled canned soups.

Chicken Soup is Medicine, Scientists Confirm:

Web posted at: 4:24 PM EDT (2024 GMT)

WASHINGTON — Scientists say they have confirmed what grandmothers have known for centuries — that chicken soup is good for colds.

Chicken soup — as made by grandma — contains several ingredients that affect the body’s immune system, a team at the University of Nebraska Medical Center found.

Specifically, it has anti-inflammatory properties that could explain why it soothes sore throats and eases the misery of colds and flu, Dr. Stephen Rennard and colleagues said Monday.

“Chicken soup may contain a number of substances with beneficial medicinal activity,” the researchers wrote in their report, published in the journal Chest.

“My wife was making chicken soup one year for the Jewish holidays and we were talking about its effects on colds,” Rennard, a specialist in pulmonary medicine, said in a telephone interview.

“I said ‘well, maybe it has some anti-inflammatory effect,’ and she said ‘really?’ and I said ‘why not?’ and I said maybe we could find out in the lab.”

As it turned out, Rennard’s lab was well-suited to making such tests. “In the lab we study inflammation and injury and repair mechanisms in the lung as related to asthma and emphysema and so on,” he said.

So Rennard’s wife Barbara Rennard made up a batch of her grandmother’s chicken soup, which includes chicken, onions, sweet potato, parsnips, turnips, carrots, celery stems, and parsley. Rennard said his wife added no salt but did include matzo balls, a kind of dumpling.

Then they ran laboratory tests. Not only did they test the soup as a whole, but they separated out the components.

“These tests were in the laboratory and it doesn’t test (chicken soup) clinically in colds,” Rennard stressed.

Neutrophil movement stopped

They found that chicken soup and many of its ingredients helped stop the movement of neutrophils — white blood cells that eat up bacteria and cellular debris and which are released in great numbers by viral infections like colds.

Neutrophil activity can stimulate the release of mucous, which may be the cause of the coughs and stuffy nose caused by upper respiratory infections such as colds.

“All the ingredients were found to be inhibitory, including the boiled extract of chicken alone,” they wrote.

Rennard said vitamins and other agents in the ingredients could, plausibly, have biological action.

The researchers also went to the store and bought 13 different commercial brands of soup to test.

“About a third of them were more active than grandma’s soup,” Rennard said, adding that he could not remember which kinds of soup they were.

“One or two of them had very little activity at all. Vegetarian vegetable soup had some activity.”

To be safe, they also tested plain Omaha tap water which, to their relief, had no effect. “If tap water were active, that would be disturbing in a number of ways,” Rennard said.

Some researchers have suggested in the past that perhaps the steam from the soup, or the chicken fat, may play a role in soothing inflamed airways. Rennard said this was possible.

He also said there could be a “TLC” (tender, loving care) factor. “If you know somebody prepared soup for you by hand, that might have an effect,” he said.

Rennard said he had no immediate plans to test chicken soup any further. “I have no doubt that generations from now, people will read this and the only thing of interest will be the recipe,” he said.

“It really is good soup.”
