Just Another Day on Capital Hill

“The Republican Party finds itself in trouble — big trouble. Obamacare is not going to be defunded, and the GOP will have to make a deal with the president. And you know who’s most happy about this? Hillary Clinton, that’s who. Hard-right Americans should understand that Democrats will win next year’s midterm elections and the presidency of 2016 if the Republican party does not begin to solve problems.” — Bill O’Reilly  (Source)

At least they’re talking with the president! Now if they can just get it through their heads that nothing will be negotiated until they open up the government again. Read the latest here.

So Proud

I’m sincerely proud of President Obama.

I’ve been praying for him that he will not give into these continuing extortion-tactics, no matter what is threatened.

These latest threats of defaulting on the debt ceiling are the kind of immature, spiteful behavior that any mother knows only gets a parent or a leader more of the same! If one gives into a spoiled child-type who wants his own way, one creates a real monster. We’ll be owned by that monster down the road, in the future, and there will be no point in whining about it because we will have created it.  By not insisting on respect for our word and refusal to accept extortion and threats as par for the way things are, we open the door to allow more of these kinds of tricks again and again for the next three years of this president’s term. No thanks!

This nation should not be run by these kinds of dysfunctional tactics.

President Obama absolutely cannot back down now. He cannot negotiate, make a deal, or even confer about compromise — not until the Republicans open the government 100 percent and stop threatening him. So stop it already! GET A CLUE.

I have had my days of really being angered by this mess for a variety of reasons. I finally realized it wouldn’t do me any good to keep upsetting myself over what I cannot control. I’m praying now daily for God to bless and keep this president and primarily to keep him strong. I’m also praying that those who are trying to ruin him will come to their senses and begin to act as they should. Every time I watch the news now, I pray at the end of it. This is helping me and my aggravation level. 🙂

No matter what happens or what we lose as a nation, we will not have a spineless worm of a president at the helm. We won’t have someone who caved into extortion and childish tactics that should shame grown men and women. We can be proud of this man for having some guts.

President Obama I am so proud of you! I am grateful that you are the president of this fine country. May God bless you greatly and I thank Him for blessing us with you at the helm of these United States of America.

Excellent opinion piece on this matter:

Psalms 34

I bless God every chance I get;
my lungs expand with his praise.
2 I live and breathe God;
if things aren’t going well, hear this and be happy:
3 Join me in spreading the news;
together let’s get the word out.
4 God met me more than halfway,
he freed me from my anxious fears.
5 Look at him; give him your warmest smile.
Never hide your feelings from him.
6 When I was desperate, I called out,
and God got me out of a tight spot.
7 God’s angel sets up a circle
of protection around us while we pray.
8 Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see—
how good God is.
Blessed are you who run to him.
9 Worship God if you want the best;
worship opens doors to all his goodness.
10 Young lions on the prowl get hungry,
but God-seekers are full of God.
11 Come, children, listen closely;
I’ll give you a lesson in God worship.
12 Who out there has a lust for life?
Can’t wait each day to come upon beauty?
13 Guard your tongue from profanity,
and no more lying through your teeth.
14 Turn your back on sin; do something good.
Embrace peace—don’t let it get away!
15 God keeps an eye on his friends,
his ears pick up every moan and groan.
16 God won’t put up with rebels;
he’ll cull them from the pack.
17 Is anyone crying for help? God is listening,
ready to rescue you.
18 If your heart is broken, you’ll find God right there;
if you’re kicked in the gut, he’ll help you catch your breath.
19 Disciples so often get into trouble;
still, God is there every time.
20 He’s your bodyguard, shielding every bone;
not even a finger gets broken.
21 The wicked commit slow suicide;
they waste their lives hating the good.
22 God pays for each slave’s freedom;
no one who runs to him loses out.

Determination!

This article explains my personal situation here in TEXAS very well. It’s frustrating, to say the least. Really good article for everyone to have a look at.

‘When you look at these income eligibility levels, you see just how cruel the existing system is’.

‘For instance, in Alabama, you can’t get Medicaid if your income exceeds 23 percent of the poverty level, or $4,500 for a family of three’.

‘Just think about that for a second’.

‘Do you think you could find a place to live, pay your bills, and feed your family on that income’?

‘But the state of Alabama says if you’re that rich, you can afford to buy health insurance’.

‘In Texas, the state that will be depriving the most people of insurance by rejecting the expansion, only families under 25 percent of the poverty level, or $4,894 for a family of three, will be eligible for Medicaid’.

‘I’m guessing that’s about what Rick Perry spends on boots every year.

‘The states rejecting the expansion of Medicaid are the ones that already make it…

Stand Strong, Mr. President!

Don’t you do it, President Obama. Don’t you give one inch!

If you give into extortion games and tricks, President Obama, then you let down the millions of Americans who do not have and cannot afford health insurance. You also let down the American people because you show them that anyone can threaten you and get their way through dysfunctional, inappropriate means like our own trusted congressmen have done. They have betrayed our country!

These rogue conservative Republicans think they are doing what is right for their constituency, but they have harmed thousands of innocent Americans in the process of attempting to extort the President of the United States of America. They have become as domestic terrorists, holding their own government hostage just because they don’t like the law of the land that the Supreme Court signed off on.

These rogues are grandiose in their arrogance! How dare they attempt to take hostage the American people and government itself? If you give them what they want, Mr. President, you set new precedent. Stand strong and don’t you give up. You’re in the right and have followed the laws of the land. You’re doing good and showing the fruit of the spirit by standing up for the poor and downtrodden while these naysayers would take the bread out of the mouth of babes and disabled vets to get their way. Do not give in, President Obama.

May God be with you in this fight upon our own hallowed ground, within the hallowed halls of your residence. May He grant you peace of mind and wisdom to do the next right thing. May He keep you safe and give you a solid understanding that you not give into these few, who could care less about the heart of America or what America stands for.

I’m praying for you and I admire your strength of character and willingness not to be bought and paid for by the good old boys and their greed and love of Mammon. Stand strong. Do not give in. Do not give way.

Semper Fi, President Obama. May our great military and our vets stand with you. May the furloughed federal government workers recognize that you cannot give way. And God bless you again for trying to bless us with healthcare where we’ve had none.

Extorting the President

United States Capitol

As we wait for yet another potential government shutdown, it’s interesting to think about a rogue faction of congress, spurred on by Texas Senator Ted Cruz, attempting to extort a US president. President Obama remains calm despite the hoopla over his Affordable Care Act, which promises millions of uninsured Americans, healthcare.

The rogue faction of tea party conservatives and other sundry rebels is about to hold the US military hostage with no paychecks, along with thousands of soon-to-be furloughed federal workers. I have to wonder how these fine Americans feel about ye good ole’ party (GOP) right about now…

Obama Care will be funded, regardless, however!

Grin Inc.

This is wonderful news.

Unfortunately, I live in Texas, a red state backward in its vision for Americans, thus I have no idea whether I’ll be able to personally apply for healthcare or not, but I’m glad that the rest of you will and have only this to say:

GO OBAMA, GO!

I don’t like or appreciate extortion as a way of meeting one’s goals; it’s a slimy, slippery process that is inclined to backfire. And backfire I think it will.

I do greatly admire my president, though. I think he is brave, reasonable, and rational and I cheer him on for standing up for millions of us who do not have healthcare, who think he is courageous and decent for giving a hoot. Thanks, Mr. President!

Unequally Yolked

Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?

2 Corinthians 6: 14-15

Unequally yolked with unbelievers

Christians are not to bond with unbelievers.

The above passage makes it clear that “inclusivism,” “universalism,” and anything that claims that we’re all eternally going to the same destination is in error. We aren’t.

No matter how much the Christian bible-believer would like to spare the feelings of the non-Christian believer, we can’t do so without calling the Holy Bible a lie or attempting to manipulate it into saying something other than what it clearly says. We cannot water down the bible’s firm counsel in the attempt at sparing the feelings of our unbelieving friends or family.

We’re warned about trying to develop a deep, intimate relationship with an unbeliever. 2 Corinthians tells us that it’s like trying to mix darkness and light, righteousness and lawlessness;  it just won’t work. The two do not mix well. The warning is best adhered to. There are reasons for this.

I can’t help thinking about the immeasurable gulf that exists between myself and one who rebels against what the bible teaches. While we can remain civil and even enjoy one another’s companionship to a degree, the gulf between us is vast and always ever present; I think it must be there for a reason.

I was telling an unbelieving blogger friend of mine that I’ve learned to distance myself from those who don’t believe despite loving them deeply as God would have me. I have had to learn how to do this because again and again I found myself devastated and hurt when I became too close with those who were rebelling against God. Eventually I had to accept and recognize that we could only share so much in common and our relationship would always be compromised because of our different perspectives and lifestyles.

I am to love the unbelieving, but there is a divide between us despite my deep feelings of love and concern.  It’s as if we’re traveling down a similar road when suddenly a fork in that roads appears. We now have to acknowledge that we will not be able to continue the journey together, neither really knowing what is going to happen to the other, but knowing we are separating and going very different ways.

This gets kind of spooky or kind of eerie. We apparently are unable to breach the divide between those who believe and those who do not. Exploring this further, the bible says:

Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?

We already know who Jesus Christ is, but who is Belial? There is a black and white distinction drawn for us between the believer/Christ and the unbeliever/Belial. We are asked what the believer has in common or in harmony with one who does not believe.

English: A woodcarving of Belial and some of h...

In “The War of the Sons of Light Against the Sons of Darkness,” one of the Dead Sea Scrolls, Belial is the leader of the Sons of Darkness:

“But for corruption thou hast made Belial, an angel of hostility. All his dominions are in darkness, and his purpose is to bring about wickedness and guilt. All the spirits that are associated with him are but angels of destruction.”

In the Dead Sea Scrolls Belial is further contrasted with God. These are the Angel of Light and the Angel of Darkness. The Manual of Discipline identifies the Angel of Light as God himself. The Angel of Darkness is identified in the same scroll as Belial.

The Jewish Greek Septuagint,  later the Old Testament of the early Christian church, generally renders the “sons of Belial” verses in the Hebrew Bible either as “lawless men”, by idioms “sons of the pest”, rather than a personal name “sons of Belial.”

In The Satanic Bible (Earth: The Book of Belial), Belial means “without a master”, and symbolizes independence, self-sufficiency, and personal accomplishment.” (Source)

Belial

Belial (Photo credit: GogDog)

The demon of lies, Belial was acknowledged in the bible as a source of great evil,  and even as the lord of all demons. Some apocrypha label him as the father of Lucifer. Whatever Belial is, he isn’t good. The reader can find more about him here:

Despite the inseparable, great divide between the unbelieving and the believer, we are admonished as Christians to love the unbeliever and show him or her this love graciously.

  1. God wants us to conduct ourselves with wisdom toward unbelievers.
  2. God wants us to make the most of our opportunity with unbelievers.
  3. God wants us to be careful and gracious in our speech with unbelievers.
  4. God wants us to know how to answer everyone.
  5. God wants us to pray for the unbelieving.  (Source)

Food Stamps 2

The below letter was written on September 19th by an Iraq War veteran named Jason. He fought for our country and came home to an America that has left him feeling disenchanted. Jason wrote the letter in response to Republicans voting to cut $40 billion from the food stamp program this past week. He happens to be one of those who is currently counting on food stamps in order to not go hungry.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

My name is Jason. I turned 35 less than a week ago. My first job was maintenance work at a public pool when I was 17. I worked 40 hours a week while I was in college. I’ve never gone longer than six months without employment in my life and I just spent the last three years in the military, one of which consisted of a combat tour of Afghanistan. Oh, and I’m now on food stamps. Since June, as a matter of fact.

Why am I on food stamps? The same reason everyone on food stamps is on food stamps: because I would very much enjoy not starving. I mean, if that’s okay with you: Mr. or Mrs. Republican congressman. Mr. or Mrs. Conservative commentator. Mr. or Mrs. “welfare queen” letter-to-the-editor author. Mr. or Mrs. “fiscal conservative, reason-based” libertarian.

I do apologize for burdening you on the checkout line with real-life images of American-style poverty. I know you probably believe the only true starving people in the world have flies buzzing around their eyes while they wallow away, near-lifeless in gutters. Hate to burst the bubble, but those people don’t live in this country. I do. And millions like me.

Millions of people in poverty who fall into three categories. Let’s call them the “lucky” category, since conservatives seem to think people on welfare have hit some sort of jackpot: Those living paycheck to paycheck? They’re a little lucky. Those living unemployment check to unemployment check? They’re a little luckier. Those living 2nd of the month to 2nd of the month? Ding! We’ve hit the jackpot! The 2nd of the month being the time when funds gets electronically deposited onto the EBT card, [at least in NY] for those who’ve never been fortunate enough to hit that $175/month Powerball. I fall into the latter two categories.

But I’ve known people recently — soldiers in the Army — who were in the first and third. They were off fighting in Afghanistan while their wives were at home, buying food at the on-post commissary with food stamps. And nobody bats an eye there, because it’s not uncommon in the military. It’s not uncommon — nor is it shameful. It might be shameful how little service-members are paid, but that’s a separate issue.

The fact remains anyone at a certain income level can find it difficult from time to time to pay for everything. And when you’re poor you learn to make sacrifices. Food shouldn’t be one of them. The whole concept is un-American. People living here, in the greatest country on Earth, with the most abundant resources, should be forced to go hungry because of the intellectual notion of fiscal conservatism and the ideological notion of self-reliance. Are you fucking kidding me?

I didn’t risk my life in Afghanistan so I could come back and watch people go hungry in America. I certainly didn’t risk it so I could come back and go hungry. Anyone who genuinely supports cutting food stamps is not an intellectual or an ideologue — they’re a bully. And nobody likes a bully. Except other bullies.

It’s time for regular Americans to stand up to these bullies. Not cower in the corner, ashamed of needing help. Because if there’s one thing life has taught me, it’s that you never know when you’ll be the one in need.
