Without Sin

I don’t believe that Jesus Christ approves of the death penalty. I think His death on the cross changed the “eye for an eye” mentality of the Old Testament days. Jesus explained this when He dealt with the woman about to be stoned for adultery.

Government-sanctioned killing and murdering of the mentally ill and the poorest in society are not Christ-like behaviors.  These people are often minorities who can’t even afford a good attorney. Killing those who kill is not logical. We have made ourselves into the murderer.

As Christians, we have to accept a turning from the need to avenge the wrongs done to us; we are to turn to God who will handle wrongs that happen to us in His time.  I’m often surprised at the bloodlust  many Christians express as “godly.” Cheering on death for another seems very anti-Christ to me.

A Blessed 2015!

image

For this new year I pray that God will reveal Himself in a new way to every human being that lives and breathes. May God teach each person about the importance of the word “love,” and the real meaning behind it.

May God open up each and every cold, bitter heart. May He pour His Spirit out in abundance, so that everyone has opportunity to began to live and love like Jesus tried to teach us to live and love. May we each find new hope. May God bring a new compassion into every heart, for the precious lives upon our planet, whether they be animal or human being. May we fight real evil and actually be able to recognize it within ourselves and one another.

May we be “doers of the word….” and not just preachers of it.

Keep It Simple

image

I read lots of different kinds of Christian blogs when I have the time. I’ve noticed something about a few of them. Some of my brothers and sisters in Christ are filled with fear and anxiety about God, their own salvation, how they live their lives, and the general state of things. Some blogs read like serious instruction manuals full of warnings about God’s wrath if one doesn’t get “saved right.” I’m wondering about the relationship with God where one is obsessively worried about dotting every i in order to be sure they will go to Heaven. I think some of us have missed the simplicity of the word “gift.”

We cannot earn salvation. Fearfully striving to please to keep one’s salvation is a sad place to be. Love isn’t fear. Do people actually choose the Lord because they fear what will happen if they don’t? Do they try to be Christ-like because they fear going to Hell? Obedience to God is about free will, not fear. It’s a choice to love freely; it’s pleasing God because we love Him, not because we fear His punishment or wrath; that kind of salvation/relationship is self delusional.

Stop being so afraid! Preaching fear and a standard no human being can possibly attain is confusion about who God is and what and who we are to Him. It’s erroneous and tells me that the alleged relationship is hollow, and that saddens me because how can one really know God if they perceive of Him like that?

Matthew 12:1-2 One Sabbath, Jesus was strolling with his disciples through a field of ripe grain. Hungry, the disciples were pulling off the heads of grain and munching on them. Some Pharisees reported them to Jesus: “Your disciples are breaking the Sabbath rules!” 3-5 Jesus said, “Really? Didn’t you ever read what David and his companions did when they were hungry, how they entered the sanctuary and ate fresh bread off the altar, bread that no one but priests were allowed to eat? And didn’t you ever read in God’s Law that priests carrying out their Temple duties break Sabbath rules all the time and it’s not held against them? 6-8 “There is far more at stake here than religion. If you had any idea what this Scripture meant—‘I prefer a flexible heart to an inflexible ritual’—you wouldn’t be nitpicking like this. The Son of Man is no lackey to the Sabbath; he’s in charge.” (MSG)

Christmas 2014!

ef6b680f3f83c9db35130fc0b51b4452

Merry Christmas, everybody!

I have been so terribly preoccupied with far too many worldly concerns the last several months. So much has been going on for my daughter and I, some good and some not so good. We’ve been getting through it though, thank the good Lord.

Our health insurance went up about $150 a month, but we are so grateful to be able to renew our wonderful platinum Humana HMO coverage that we could dance for joy! God is so good!

I found out that I have gallbladder disease, but no problem! I was covered for the ER and the ambulance. The new necessary change of diet will help me lose weight, so again, I thank God for the blessing despite the cloud! There is always a silver lining when God is running the show of my life.

Lots of interesting new people have been popping into our lives; there is never a dull moment here. It’s a very small world, I’m learning, especially when I meet new people who already know the people I know, purely by chance!

We are considering a night down on the riverwalk to enjoy the lights, (see above). We may try to do it closer to New Years! So many fun and exciting possibilities. My business has been doing pretty decent, and my teenage daughter is growing up into a beautiful young woman. My only brother and I have been close lately, despite some troubles he has been dealing with.

I am learning a lot about God that I had not expected. Most of it doesn’t coincide with organized religion at all. There are times that I’m shocked by what I’m seeing and learning, especially by how simple and uncomplicated it all is. God is going to be quite the surprise for some, I believe. Anyway, despite the terrific troubles always appearing on the world stage, I see a lot of good going on around me when I least expect it.

Jesus Christ is God’s heart exposed for the world to see. His birth is the proof of how much God truly loves all of us. We celebrate Christmas in honor of Christ’s birth, and there is a kind of magic that surrounds this special holiday; it’s my most favorite of all of them. I so appreciate everything God has blessed me with. I hope and pray that all of you are being greatly blessed in your lives, and that these holidays are bringing you happiness despite your personal challenges. Have a merry Christmas & a happy new year! May God bless and keep you.

Martyred

image

I am outraged and horrified at yet another outright murder by police officers of yet another black American! I took note of this murder the night that the killing of Michael Brown was dismissed by the grand jury. Eric Garner was a gentle giant of a man whose murder was caught live on video. Unfortunately, yet another murder is dismissed, the murderer given impunity!

What is happening to this society? How can absolute murder be called anything but what it is? Obviously, filming the police in the act of murder doesn’t make any difference! I am sickened by what is occurring in our country on a consistent basis; I pray to God that something can be done to stop these heinous acts of violence and apparent racial profiling/discrimination.

God does not approve. Jesus Christ is watching these matters play out day after day. We must, as observers of these travesties of justice, speak up and speak out! We must protest these kinds of actions by those in authority who are paid to serve and protect! Enough is enough. Not one more!

Eric Garner cried out eight times that he could not breathe! What if that was your child, brother, father? Would you speak out then? This must stop. All people who value life must speak up and speak out. God, I beg of you to stop this police brutality against innocent civilian Americans. Please prevent those who we trust from harming one more person. Put this outrage into the hearts of all, in the name of Jesus and make these crimes of hate stop.

Thanksgiving 2014!

image

Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on my many blessings! In fact, one can be grateful every day one lives and experiences moment to moment! I am blessed because I trust God, even through the challenges and the really tough times. Life is an adventure, no matter our age, God turns everything that happens into something good, for my good; I can trust in this no matter how things may appear!

Today we are cooking with our neighbors whom we don’t know too well, but we are getting to know through sharing a meal! We’ve invited quite the crew to the meal and are cooking the turkey and dressing, and various other yummy selections. It’s a relaxing, peaceful, slow-paced kind of afternoon. May God bless you and your loved ones as much as He has ours. Give thanks and decide to be happy!
