The Third Day

image

“After Jesus was crucified, Joseph of Arimathea had Christ’s body placed in his own tomb. A large stone covered the entrance and soldiers guarded the sealed tomb. On the third day, a Sunday, several women (Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, Joanna and Salome are all mentioned in the gospel accounts) went to the tomb at dawn to anoint the body of Jesus.

A violent earthquake took place as an angel from heaven rolled back the stone. The guards shook in fear as the angel, dressed in bright white, sat upon the stone. The angel announced to the women that Jesus who was crucified was no longer in the tomb, “He is risen, just as he said.” Then he instructed the women to inspect the tomb and see for themselves. Next he told them to go inform the disciples. With a mixture of fear and joy they ran to obey the angel’s command, but suddenly Jesus met them on their way. They fell at his feet and worshiped him. Jesus then said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go tell my brothers to go to Galilee. There they will see me.”

When the guards reported what had happened to the chief priests, they bribed the soldiers with a large sum of money, telling them to lie and say that the disciples had stolen the body in the night. After his resurrection, Jesus appeared to the women near the tomb and later at least twice to the disciples while they were gathered at a house in prayer. He visited two of the disciples on the road to Emmaus and he also appeared at the Sea of Galilee while several of the disciples were fishing.

Points of Interest from the Resurrection of Jesus Christ Story:

• There are at least 12 different appearances of Christ in the resurrection accounts, beginning with Mary and ending with Paul. They were physical, tangible experiences with Christ eating, speaking and allowing himself to be touched.

• Jesus’ resurrected body was different from his physical body. It was no longer subject to the same laws of nature. He could transcend locked doors, and yet he could still be touched and he could eat.

• Before Jesus ascended into heaven he gave the Great Commission, telling his followers to go and make disciples of all nations.

• The stone was not rolled away from the tomb so Jesus could get out. He was able to walk through walls (John 20:19) in his resurrected body. The stone was rolled away so that everyone could see that he was risen.”

Good Friday

image

Our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for the sins of the world, according to the Holy Bible, specifically the four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There are also countless other passages within the New Testament and even the Old Testament, that collaborate the events that took place on the day of Christ’s crucifixion.

We celebrate Jesus’ death on the cross with gratitude and sorrow at the same time; it’s a catch-22. While we mourn what occurred and why, we are thankful that Jesus, as the son of God, took upon Himself our sin, our trespasses, our inability to measure up to a holy god. Jesus made it possible for us to cross the sin barrier and stand up with Him in front of His father and now ours…

We are adopted children now, (if we so choose to believe and thus agree), of our Father in Heaven. We give thanks on Good Friday for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ that paid the price so that we can call God, “Abba,” or “our Father,” as Jesus does.

To the thief on the cross nearby, Jesus said: “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.” Luke 23:43

Then Jesus, calling out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!” And after he said this he breathed his last. Luke 23:46

What, in detail, did Jesus do for us on this day, “Good Friday?”

“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2Corinthians 5:2

“In His sinless and perfect human body—prepared especially as a perfect blood sacrifice for the sins of the world—Jesus suffered terribly in body, soul, and spirit during the long night of His trial. That suffering began with the agony in the garden of Gethsemane and in all the humiliating events of His trial and cruel torture prior to His morning journey to Golgotha. The worst was yet to come. Death by crucifixion is an especially painful and terrible death. It was common in Roman times for crucified men in good health to hang dying on a cross sometimes for days, yet Scripture records that Jesus died within six hours’ clock time. Even if He only suffered normal human pain in this ordeal it would have been incredibly severe.

All this pain, however, was but the prelude to His real suffering, which involved being cut off from the Father’s love and presence and consigned to carry our sins out of the universe, to hell as it were, like the scapegoat sacrifice of Israel of which he, Christ, is the antitype.” (see this source)

This intense, incredible sacrifice of Christ Jesus’ is our hope, our faith, our strong belief, culminating in the celebration of Easter Sunday and the Resurrection, in which Jesus rises from the dead, or “the empty tomb.”

Personally, I am so very thankful that God allowed Jesus to stand in the place He did for my sins. From birth there was the inability to measure up to the holiness of God, as I was born into an unholy world and thus became a part of it. I acknowledge the intense suffering Jesus endured for me, and I am grateful for it. I believe. I accept His sacrifice. I want to be holy in the eyes of God. Thank you, Jesus.

NOT Walking Away (the sequel)

KidsFiltered

It’s been a long time since I wrote the posting, “Walking Away.” In the interim between that posting and this, a faithful prayer warrior sister of mine has often prayed for me; I’m sure many others have been in prayer as well over the years, and for this I am so grateful.

I’m not sure of why, because I know I am not a perfect Christian by any means, but it seems that God has allowed circumstances to occur in such a way that something wonderful has happened. Someone that God placed into my brother’s path took an interest in him, and contacted me when he really needed his family’s help back in late December of last year.

The timing was perfect; God’s timing not my own, of course. I needed my brother’s help badly and I didn’t even realize it. Our best friend, Uncle Don, had just died before that in June. My teen daughter and I were on our own and struggling a bit with so many things, primarily emotional. We were lonely, tired, and just kind of beaten down, really. We didn’t say it, but we were feeling less than hopeful.

My brother arrived because he needed a drama-free, quiet place to stay and recuperate from his own troubles; I needed my tiny trailer worked on. A tenant I had rented to for six years had pretty much demolished the trailer. My brother began to work his handyman magic and with the two of us brainstorming, the trailer has turned out absolutely cozy and attractive, not to mention, “unique!”

Who would have thought that the daily work on this tiny trailer would bring us back together as it has? My daughter doted on her blood uncle, my brother, and is so relieved to have him back in our lives. She looks at him like she can’t believe he’s really here with us.

Sincerely, it could not have happened at a better time. We’ve now completed work on the trailer and are starting on repairing the barn; we are also putting a garden together. I am chauffeuring my brother back and forth to work in exchange for all of this help and he is renting a cabin unit from me on the property, to stay in for the time being.

Our separate lives are coming together as a real “family.” It hasn’t been like this since we were young together as lost and scattered children. It’s hard to believe this and scary on some level. I haven’t had this much hope in a long time that things could be really happy, family wise, in our lives. God is blessing me/us/our home and property! My brother’s trials have brought him back to us and he seems to be enjoying being with us too!

There are other events occurring outside, but all around us. These events are very exciting. My child has inherited unexpected property, way out in the country, a few hours from us. We’re going to have a look at the old house (picture above this paragraph) on that property and the acreage located there, soon. There’s a huge metal building on the acreage, with lots of wood inside, and the old house looks like a fixer upper from the pictures.

Though my teen-aged daughter is still terribly challenged by her Bipolar Mood Disorder and a never-ending stream of psychiatric drugs to control it, we are all feeling grateful, and again, just so hopeful! I’m peeping around the corner of the future and experiencing inner excitement and a stirring up of wonder.

What will be next? With God at the helm there is just no way of knowing! I never would have expected all of this to happen, but who can know the mind of God?

Insanity

How is it possible that there are people politically involved in running for high office, who think like this? These kinds of beliefs and thoughts are archaic and out of touch with reality. “Righteous people are blessed with good health? The immoral are not?” This is black and white thinking to the extreme that is completely inaccurate.

It is disconcerting to me that a man who really believes and publicly spouts these kinds of things has any credibility whatsoever! His religious opinions are based upon obvious erroneous interpretation of the Holy Bible. How can anyone who is of sound mind consider that he could make decisions for others when he thinks in such radical, controversial fashion?

It’s honestly quite scary that delusional individuals like this could actually be taken seriously and legitimately placed in a position to credibly run for president of the United States of America; it’s a frightening thought….

The Tweet Of God

image

 I thought this was amusing initially, but once I stopped laughing I began to really think about it;

people may disagree but I have no doubt that this is true ….

Let that sink in for just a minute.

What about your choices, behavior, and the way you treat others, online and off?

Seriously, what do you think God thinks about it?

Are you mean, self righteous, arrogant, proud, or haughty? Do you think you know it all?

Judgmental much? Feel like God’s gift to Christian brethren, mankind, and the unsaved?

Seriously, what do you think God thinks about how you love your neighbors, etc.?

Maybe it’s easier not to reflect on it, or maybe when you do,

you vow to try harder to be better, but like a New Years resolution,

change doesn’t come to fruition.

I care a lot about what God thinks about me.

Do you?

Christianity

—————-

Biblical behavior from the president when he is being attacked, as usual. He turns the other cheek, despite unfounded accusations that he doesn’t love us or America. I have to wonder what God thinks of “the people of the cross” when He observes how they treat this American president.

What knowledge of Christ can that be, which sees not that he is most worthy of our entire obedience? And a disobedient life shows there is neither religion nor honesty in the professor. The love of God is perfected in him that keeps his commandments. God’s grace in him attains its true mark, and produces its sovereign effect as far as may be in this world, and this is man’s regeneration; though never absolutely perfect here. Yet this observing Christ’s commands, has holiness and excellency which, if universal, would make the earth resemble heaven itself. The command to love one another had been in force from the beginning of the world; but it might be called a new command as given to Christians. It was new in them, as their situation was new in respect of its motives, rules, and obligations. And those who walk in hatred and enmity to believers, remain in a dark state. Christian love teaches us to value our brother’s soul, and to dread every thing hurtful to his purity and peace. Where spiritual darkness dwells, in mind, the judgment, and the conscience will be darkened, and will mistake the way to heavenly life. These things demand serious self-examination; and earnest prayer, that God would show us what we are, and whither we are going.

Valentine’s Day Blessings!

images-3

God has done amazing, wondrous things lately! I am astounded at how He uses us to His glory!

A young woman pleaded with me to help her escape the man she was living with, whom she said made her feel like a slave, a hostage. She is afraid of him. She fears what he will do next. We’ve made a plan. We will be taking her to a battered women’s shelter. The shelter has already approved her. We are praying for her safe removal from this situation tonight, and also for our safety when this man finds out she is gone. May God bless and keep us all safe under His wing and bring about His will in this matter. May little M. get herself a fresh, beautiful start with God’s powerful hand upon her life from this moment forward. We thank God for bringing her here to us. We thank Him that M. felt safe enough to confide and ask for help.

There has been another miracle as well!

The other day, last week, a lost chocolate Labrador showed up on my property and I knew he must have someone missing him. It turned out that we kept him for 3 days, feeding and caring for him because he was tired and his paws were sore; meanwhile his owner was praying two hours in the morning and two hours at night, searching and crying out to God for his safe return. I began to go around our area and the vet to have him scanned for a chip. I then stopped into The Dollar Store to ask if anyone had lost a chocolate lab. A lady in the store still had the lab owner’s phone number that the owner had left with management in case someone stopped into the store.

I called her! The lab had been missing nearly 2 weeks by that time. She sent her granddaughter right over to pick “Rocky” up and was shortly reunited with her beautiful dog. God is so good! What amazing ways God has in store for us when we trust Him and seek His guidance.

My Letter to All the Other Christians

Beautiful, exceptional posting so full of simple truth. Of course, it is these kinds of straightforward thoughts that are often the hardest for some to grasp, sadly….
